Detroit Lions Analysis

The Lions are coming into this game after losing their home opener against the 49ers. They were down by a lot a few times in that game but they just refused to die slowly coming back each time to end up making that an 8 point game. Now they will be playing their first divisional matchup of the year. Jared Goff did not have a bad game in his debut as a Lion as he completed 38/57 passes for 338 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. They could not get the run game going in this one as Jamaal Williams led the team with 54 rushing yards and 1 TD on 9 carries. D'Andre Swift actually got a majority of the carries with 11 for 39 yards rushing. T.J. Hockenson had a good game as he led the receivers with 97 yards and 1 TD on 8 receptions. Tracy Walker III led the defense with 6 solo tackles and 1 assisted one along with 1 sack as well. No one else on the defense had a sack or an interception for the team. The Lions scored 33 points in that game and allowed their opponents to score 41 against them. Their offense is averaging 430 YPG while they are allowing 442 YPG.

Green Bay Packers Analysis

The Packers are coming into this game after losing their season opener on the road in New Orleans. They were awful in that game as they came in as a favorite and lost bad by over 30 points, all they could muster up was 1 field goal in the entire game. Aaron Rodgers had a very bad game as he completed 15/28 passes for 133 yards and 2 interceptions. Their running game was non-existent as AJ Dillon led the team in rushing with 19 yards on 4 carries. Davante Adams led the team in receiving but only had 56 yards on 5 receptions. Adrian Amos led the defense with 7 solo tackles and 2 assisted ones while Krys Barnes also had 7 solo tackles and 1 assisted one. No one on this defense recorded a single sack or an interception in this game. They only scored 3 points in their first game and allowed their opponents to score 38 points against them. Their offense is averaging 229 YPG while their defense is allowing 322 YPG.

Lions vs Packers Prediction

Green Bay is a massive favorite in this game by double digits. They are at home but this is a divisional matchup and a different Lions team with a new quarterback taking charge. The Lions sure showed that they can score points no matter how far they fall behind. The Packers have not even scored a touchdown yet this season and Aaron Rodgers looked like he did not care and did not want to be there in week 1. There is something going on with them and double digit spreads are hard for most NFL teams to cover. After a performance like that in week 1 no one can back the Packers here. The best bet is to take the Lions to cover this big spread.

Players to Watch

Detroit Lions: Jared Goff is one player to watch in this game. He is on a new team and looked pretty good in their last game almost leading his team to a very late comeback. If he can do that from the start then they have a chance to make a big upset here so look for him to play well and get this offense going.

Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers is one player to watch here. He looked awful in the last game and a lot of what the Packers will do this year relies on him and how he plays. Watch for him in this game as he will either step up and play better or continue his bad play in what could be some rocky relationships between him and the team moving forward.

Notable Quotes

"We dug ourselves into a really big ditch early against a very good team. We were better in the second half, but that wasn't good enough." - Dan Campbell on his team’s performance in the first game.
"This is a good kick in the you-know-where. We felt like we were going to go up and down the field on whoever they have and that obviously wasn't the case." - Aaron Rodgers after an awful performance in their first game.
