Of course the Vegas Golden Knights and Boston Bruins are heading the fun charge here as the top two teams in the league, because of course they are. But never count out the Avalanche, you know they're always going to be hanging around and will be eating worlds once they get everyone healthy. Stars vs. Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are having to play the second game of a back-to-back after getting shelled in Claude Giroux’s return to Philadelphia on Saturday. Now things aren’t going to get any easier when they have to host the Dallas Stars on Sunday afternoon.

The Flyers lost for the fifth time in seven games and have been held to just three goals combined in their last two games. Saturday, it was all about their former captain coming back and showing them what it’s like to win when there’s talent around him. Giroux had three assists, Alex DeBrincat had two goals, and the Flyers didn’t have a prayer.

"It was tough," he said. "The fans here, I wasn't too sure what to expect, but they treated me well. So many memories in this building. That video, I wish they showed that video at the end of the game because they showed that video and then (I) had to go for a shift right away, so that was tough. But it's part of the game. You've got to be professional and just do your job."

One component to doing your job is to talk after the game, and that’s what coach John Tortorella didn’t do last game for whatever reason. He did this time, and he seemed mad per usual. But seriously, Kevin Hayes scored and Carter Hart had no chance against his former captain.

"You can't win in the National Hockey League when you're playing against two opponents, the opponent themselves and us," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "We did so many good things, but then we imploded. Just unnecessary penalties."

To be fair, that sounds like any Flyers game, to be honest.

But this also seems like the perfect time for the Stars to get back on the right path after a tough couple of games. Dallas has dropped two in a row with losses at Winnipeg and home to the San Jose Sharks. The latter was a 5-4 loss to the lowly Sharks that wasted another huge scoring night for Jamie Benn and the return of Jake Oettinger. The star goalie made 13 saves in his return from injury that was sustained on Oct. 29.

In short, the young man had a tough time on just 20 shots.

"They only had 20 shots," Oettinger said. "We scored four goals, and when you score four goals, you expect to win. I definitely could have made another save or two and at least helped us get to overtime. I know I have [to be] better, and just [have] to do it next game."

Benn has been on a tear the last week and a half when it didn’t seem like he could score at all. He had a hat trick against Edmonton this week and now with two goals, the captain is churning along at the right time. If he gets going while Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz keep scoring, this team might not have a weakness any time soon.

Prediction

The Flyers should perform better this time around, but the biggest issue is going with Felix Sandstrom against a much better team than Ottawa. If Hart struggled against Ottawa, I can only imagine with Dallas after a day off teeing off on the young goalie. Stars win 5-2
