Stars - Coyotes preview, prediction and analysis

The Dallas Stars will be playing the Arizona Coyotes on Friday, March 31 in Tempe, Arizona.

The Dallas Stars won against the Chicago Blackhawks last Tuesday, March 28 at United Center in Chicago, Illinois with a score of 4-1. The Dallas Stars currently rank 2nd in the Central Division.

Jake Oettinger made 17 saves for the Dallas Stars. Tyler Seguin, Colin Miller, Joe Pavelski and Luke Glendening scored for the Stars (40-20-14), who moved into a tie with the Colorado Avalanche, who have one game in hand, for second in the Central Division, one point behind the Minnesota Wild.

"I think, especially early on, we executed well coming out of our end, things we needed to clean up," Pavelski said. "It felt like there was a lot of good support all over the ice. We got a lead. We played hard. We stayed within ourselves and kind of took what was given for the most part."

Dallas was coming off a 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

"I thought our execution was good tonight," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. "Details were good most of the game. We came in and did what we had to do and got two points. We were coming off a pretty poor effort, so that was a much better effort by us. Everything was much better than it was the last game. We've just got to continue with those habits for the last eight games."

Seguin put the Stars ahead 1-0 at 5:45 of the first period. Jani Hakanpaa passed the puck from the right boards to Seguin, who scored five-hole from the slot.

"It was great," Seguin said. "[Hakanpaa] faked out the goalie and put it in a good spot. Happy it went in."

Miller scored with one second left on a power play at 18:59 to make it 2-0. He took a cross-ice pass from Evgenii Dadonov and scored on a wrist shot from the top of the left face-off circle.

Pavelski's tip-in of Joel Hanley's shot from just inside the blue line gave Dallas a 3-0 lead at 11:24 of the second period. It was his fourth goal in five games.

"We were on the inside more often than not," Pavelski said. "It was a road game where you were able to roll all four lines all night and use everybody. It's a big part of this team's identity."

Glendening scored short-handed on a 2-on-1 break with Ty Dellandrea to extend the lead to 4-0 at 7:04 of the third period.

Tyler Johnson scored on a rebound at the top of the crease at 10:33 for the 4-1 final, his first goal since Feb. 27 (15 games).

The Dallas Stars have won six of their last 10 games.

The Arizona Coyotes lost against the Edmonton Oilers last Monday, March 27 at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona with a score of 5-4. The Arizona Coyotes currently rank 7th in the Central Division.

Matias Maccelli and Barrett Hayton each scored twice, Lawson Crouse had three assists and Karel Vejmelka made 24 saves for the Coyotes (27-35-13), who have lost five straight (0-3-2), including 4-3 in a shootout against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.

Maccelli made it 1-0 at 3:50 of the first period, but Hyman scored six seconds into an Edmonton power play at 4:40 to tie it 1-1, redirecting McDavid's pass to the left post.

Maccelli had his first NHL multigoal game while defending against McDavid's line.

"He had two goals playing McDavid, and you should get an award just for that," Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. "He played really good defensively, and now he's learning to put more pucks on the net and he is successful."

Hayton put Arizona ahead 2-1 at 12:59 before Bouchard scored 35 seconds later at 13:34 to tie it 2-2.

Edmonton scored two more goals before Maccelli cut it to 4-3 at 3:52 of the third, tapping in a loose puck in the crease.

Hayton then tied it 4-4 at 4:50 with a backhand off a Nick Schmaltz rebound.

"Obviously, the last two games our fight in the third period has been really good," Hayton said. "But the first period cost us tonight. I'm super proud of the fight we put up, but it's frustrating giving up that first period like we did."

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gave Edmonton a 5-4 lead at 12:05 of the third period on a power play.

The Arizona Coyotes have won four of their last 10 games.
