Suns: 64-18, 1st place Western Conference

An NBA Western Conference Playoff second round Game 5. This is another NBA playoff series that is on fire.  The Phoenix Suns won both games at home to start the series… The Dallas Mavericks won both games at home to start the series.  We are essentially at 0-0 with the win going to the first to win 2 out of 3 games.  The series so far has focused on two beautiful point guards.  The Phoenix Suns have the Point GOD in Chris Paul and the Mavericks have a new LeBron in PG Luka Doncic.  Both these guys are capable of having big games across the statline… Chris is a little better on defense than Luka, Luka is better on offense than Chris.  Neither is anything less than an all-timer.  The only difference really is the rest of the roster. The Suns have spent all year proving that they had a deep roster… they have other stars (SG Devin Booker, C Deandre Ayton)  and lots of quality which makes them maybe the best bench in the league.  The Mavs on the other hand have proved that Luka is real… all the time, in all places Luka can drop triple doubles or 40 points OR BOTH.  The roster around Luka is made up of no other stars but a full 10 NBA Quality role players.  The best of the bunch is SG Jalen Brunson who has had some great scoring games.. They also have Sf Dorian Finney-Smith who is adept at defense AND getting some offensive stats.  After that I can show you multiple guys who could start in this league… without necessarily ever being stars.  The question when these two play is: How will Mavs C Dwight Powell and C/PF Maxi Kleber matchup with Suns Center Deandre Ayton… in the first two game the answer was “no problem”... In the last two games the answer was: “no problem”.  At home Deandre Ayton has to make it a problem.

The Dallas Mavericks have won 6 of their last ten games.  They went 7-3 ATS during that stretch.  4 Oversd and 6 Unders.  In the last game, they won 111 - 101.  A Big 10 point win that was also a win ATS.  It happened on the Mavs home court.  PG Luka Doncic had 26 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists.  Amazing numbers!  They also got 24 points from SF Dorian Finney - Smith and 18 points from SG Jalen Brunson.  The Mavs rely heavily on PF Maxi Kleber and SF Davis Bertans off the bench.  C Dwight Powell was again barely in the game. The Mavs are tied 2-2 in the series and deep 6-point underdogs in this game at Phoenix.  I would bet against them and then cover my eyes in the 4th quarter.

The Phoenix Suns have won 6 of their last ten games.  They went 6-4 ATS during that stretch.  The Suns have been struggling compared to the regular season where they had a much better win percentage.  SG Devin Booker had 35 points… but Chris Paul had only 5 points with 5 rebounds and 7 assists.  Chris only played 23 minutes.  He had a severe distraction when he found out the Dallas Mavericks fans had put their hands on his mother (on Mother’s day) in the stands.  I know there will be more to the story as it unfolds… but personally that fan or fans would be dead had it been my mother…, not even a little kidding.  If that was all Chris Paul also knew?... It is totally normal that he would be distracted and upset.  Further, people in the stands have been behaving incredibly badly.  The reports are in from everywhere.  People seem to think they have the right to behave like it is 1975 and none of the professional leagues expect anything but thugs in the stands.
