NBA Standings

Mavericks: 27-20, 5th place Western Conference
Warriors: 34-13, 2nd place Western Conference

A Western Conference matchup that really matters!  The Western Conference is bunched at the top.  The top four teams in the West all have above 30 wins… they are all cruising to the playoffs while feasting on the rest of the league.  The Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Utah Jazz… each has a fiery offense and a defense that is more than effective.  The #1 Phoenix Suns are actually beginning to pull away with it all because of some struggles from the #2 Golden State Warriors.  The Mavericks are in the 5th place which is equivalent to being on the porch and staring in at a fancy dinner being had inside.  The Mavericks have two of the best players in the league… in fact PG Luka Doncic is widely considered the best young basketball player in the entire league… he is the heir apparent to LeBron if Ja Morant doesn’t catch him.  Whoever wins this one the Phoenix Suns ultimately benefit… but whoever loses will feel the sting weeks from now.

The Dallas Mavericks have been moving up the standings after a slow start to the season.  They have had some drama as well… Does Kristaps Porzingis even like playing with Luka Doncic?  Is Luka Doncic out of shape after a party-hard enjoying his life off-season?... Can this team win enough without any other stars or even top-notch starters around them?  It’s true the Mavericks stars of Luka and Kristaps are surrounded by hard playing quality NBA role players… but no real NBA starters… all these other guys don’t show up on the top 5, top 6, top 7 player lists at their position.  Dorian Finney-Smith is probably the third best player on the roster and he isn’t top ten at small forward in the league… he certainly doesn’t show up among the Mavericks stat leaders… in fact per category Luka Doncic leads the team in points, assists, rebounds, AND steals… Kristaps leads the team in blocks.  Not a whole lot of team play.  Yet, they are on a rise that coincides with drops by the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers (both of whom are heavily suffering from injuries).  The Mavericks have won 8 of their last ten games.  The two losses came to the Phoenix Suns (almost a perfect team) and the New York Knicks (a total fluke, the Mavs are better than that).  The Mavs need to step up now against any team ahead of them in the standing.

The Golden State Warriors have had a season of intoxicating highs.  The Golden State Warriors are a surprisingly great team just 2 ½ seasons removed from Kevin Durant walking away at the same time SG Klay Thompson went down with injury that led to multiple seasons fo recovery and re-injury and recovery… They got good because of a few trades and a few years picking wisely in the draft… Sg Kevin Poole and Sf Jonathna Kuminga were good picks,,, C Jonathan Wiseman is on the shelf with his own injury but threatens to make this team even better when he returns.  Stephen Curry set the all-time 3-pointers made record and still has several seasons left to play.  The bigger and better news is that Klay Thompson made his long awaited return and looks good.  The roster will need to figure out the new dynamic but the Warriors are in second place in the West and the Splash brothers are reunited with Draymond Green still in the foil and a full solid team around them.  Hollywood is calling for the movie rights!  The Warriors have won 5 of their last ten games… It's been a down stretch, but they are trying to rework the rotation to accommodate Klay.

At the risk of sounding "cocky," I've made betting on the NBA look pretty easy this season. Yesterday's winner on Boston gives me a 34-16 (68%) YTD record with NBA sides! Not to be outdone, I'm also 7-2 L9 NBA totals! Though I ended up on the wrong side of Bills-KC, it was a 4-1 Sunday overall! My record over the L13 days is 33-19 with all picks! Go get it! Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors Preview and Analysis

Recent Form

Dallas is 27-20 on the season, but 24-23 ATS.  They have logged 13 Overs, 33 Unders, and 1 push. They are 12-11 in road games.

Golden State is 34-13 on the season, but 25-19-3 ATS.  They have notched 17 Overs, 29 Unders, and 1 Push.  They are 21-4 in home games.

Offensive Analysis

The Mavericks are 25th in scoring with 105.3 ppg, 22nd in rebounds with 44 per game, 6th in AST/TO ratio with 1.9. They are shooting 20th in FG%, 25th in 3PT%, and 18th in FT%.  They hang their hat on defense as they are ranked 3rd while allowing 102.5 ppg from opponents.

The Warriors are 13th in scoring with 109.4 ppg, 4th in rebounds with 46.3 per game, and 13th in AST/TO ratio with 1.8.  They are shooting 9th in FG%, 11th in 3Pt%, and 25th in FT%... HAVE I MENTIONED DRAYMOND GREEN!!??  The Warriors are 1st on defense while only allowing 101.9 ppg from opponents.  Draymond is the reason I still give the Warriors the advantage in a series over Phoenix… you don’t have to worry if Draymond will be out of position or not doing the dirty work a team needs to gut out wins… he doesn’t score like Steph or Klay… but scoring is only one part of basketball and everyone can do it.  Draymond’s bust in the HOF will be satisfying to every basketball fan that roots for hustle and teamwork.

Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors Prediction

Our prediction for Tuesday, January 25th is…. Mavericks 110 - Golden State 107

The Warriors will be missing Draymond Green and possibly Klay Thompson… The Mavs will blow past the Warriors without the heart of their defense.
