Blue Jackets - Canucks preview, prediction and analysis

The Columbus Blue Jackets will be playing the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, January 27 in Vancouver.

The Columbus Blue Jackets won against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, January 25 at Rogers Place in Edmonton with a score of 3-2 in overtime. The Columbus Blue Jackets currently rank 8th in the Metropolitan Division.

Kent Johnson scored at 2:29 of overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 3-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers. The rookie center scored on shot from the slot in the 3-on-3 overtime to end Edmonton's six-game winning streak. Kirill Marchenko tied it 2-2 at 11:26 of the third period for Columbus.

"It's one of the best feelings to get an OT winner, that was a huge win for us," said Johnson, who also had an assist. "These are the type of games you want to play in; they're really fun and have great energy. You have to manage the game to get the win. I think we've been pretty good in OT all year, but I think we're getting more comfortable in these tight games."

Adam Boqvist had two assists, and Joonas Korpisalo made 34 saves for the Blue Jackets.

Boone Jenner scored at 12:25 of the first period to give Columbus a 1-0 lead. He tipped in a point shot from Adam Boqvist.

Korpisalo made an outstanding glove save on Leon Draisaitl at 15:36 of the second on an Oilers power play to keep the game tied, but Zach Hyman scored on the same power play at 16:16 to give Edmonton a 2-1 lead.

"It was just instincts," Korpisalo said. "I think it was Hyman who got the puck in front of the net and I thought he was going to shoot there, it's a good shooting spot, but he still made that one extra pass and I was just trying to get something in front of it."

Marchenko tied it 2-2 at 11:26 of the third period. He took the puck to the net out of the corner and scored on his own rebound. The rookie forward has 11 goals in 25 games.

"I thought in the third, we had some good shifts and [Marchenko] does a heck of a job pulling it from below the goal line and getting to the other side of the net and jamming away there," Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen said. "Then you can feel there was energy in our group. It was a good period, a solid period."

The Columbus Blue Jackets have won three of their last 10 games.

The Vancouver Canucks lost against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday, January 25 at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington with a score of 6-1. The Vancouver Canucks currently rank 6th in the Pacific Division.

Conor Garland scored, and Spencer Martin made 29 saves for the Canucks (19-26-3), who were coming off a 5-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday in Tocchet's debut.
"That's a good team right there," Tocchet said. "I thought the anxiety caught up with some of the guys, with the emotion of last week, but that was bad. That was bad. … Soft. You hate to call your team soft, but it was soft tonight. We didn't participate in the wall battles, we didn't get a rim out. We knew what they were going to do. This is a good team. … Old habits came."

Garland scored for Vancouver to make it 5-1 at 19:52.

"They move their feet well. We got stuck chasing them all night," Canucks forward Curtis Lazar said. "That's an area we know we need to work and improve."

The Vancouver Canucks have won two of their last 10 games.

Prediction

How the Blue Jackets were able to play well enough to beat Edmonton was great. I can see it happening to Vancouver too because even with Tocchet won't change much. Blue Jackets 4, Canucks 3
