Oilers: won 4-2 at Canucks

The Columbus Blue Jackets will be playing the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, January 25 in Edmonton.

The Columbus Blue Jackets lost against the Calgary Flames on Monday, January 23 in Calgary with a score of 4-3 in overtime. The Columbus Blue Jackets currently rank 8th in the Metropolitan Division. Patrik Laine had a goal and two assists, Kirill Marchenko had a goal, and Boone Jenner had a goal. Joonas Korpisalo made 45 saves for the Blue Jackets.

"'Korpi,' he kept us in the game; it could've been 5-0 after the first," Laine said. "He gave us a chance to come back in the game, and I feel like we really started to battle after the first. Our power play got a couple goals to get us going. I feel we battled pretty hard tonight."

Forward Johnny Gaudreau made his first return to Calgary after signing with Columbus in the offseason. Gaudreau had two assists and was met with a chorus of boos all night long from the fanbase that saw him set records and lead the Flames to sustained success for so long.

"It'll probably be easier next time, but I'm sure I'll still get booed," said Gaudreau, who played his first eight NHL seasons with the Flames. "It'll be a lot easier. The first time back is a lot of emotions. [I was] a little nervous before the game started, but I was excited to be back. It was a lot of fun playing here."

"We're a really young group and the guys fought hard tonight," Gaudreau said. "I was really proud of them. Hopefully these are games your team kind of builds around to keep pushing and keep getting better every single day."

The Columbus Blue Jackets have won three of their last 10 games.

The Edmonton Oilers won against the Vancouvers Canucks last Saturday, January 21 in Vancouver with a score of 4-2. The Edmonton Oilers currently rank 4th in the Pacific Division. [prominent player name] scored [points]. [second prominent player name] scored [points]. Connor McDavid scored his 40th goal of the season and had an assist for the Edmonton Oilers. Zach Hyman had a goal and three assists, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and two assists, and Stuart Skinner made 27 saves in his first start since Jan. 9 for the Oilers.

"Whether it's on the score sheet or playing physical, or blocking a shot or being solid defensively, I think we're getting contributions up and down the lineup," McDavid said. "And then a little maturity. We found ourselves in some tight games and are finding a way to close them out, and that's a big part of winning."

The Edmonton Oilers have won seven of their last 10 games.

Prediction

While it would be nice to Columbus stay competitive, the Oilers are going to prove to be too much with McDavid and Draisaitl. It's not going to be pretty. Oilers 6, Blue Jackets 2
