Rockies - Giants preview and analysis

You look at this series between the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants and the first thing that comes to mind is the irrestistable force and the immovable object. Only one is a horrible force no one wants to take seriously anymore, and the other is an immovable object by not moving in the standings. You should know the latter is the home team.

It feels like the Giants are taking a step back with every loss, and Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Rockies was another instance in that. The Giants took a 3-1 lead after the first, but could not hold onto that lead after Colorado added three runs in the sixth.

Those three runs came on one swing, with Charlie Blackmon hitting the go-ahead three-run blast in the top of the sixth. The pinch-hit blast that landed into McCovey Cove gave the Rockies a much-needed win after a rough weekend.

"It was just really cool to come up in that spot, right?" Blackmon said in a postgame interview on AT&T Sportsnet. "Pinch hit off the bench, kind of cold with the lefty, tight game -- anyway, it was a really cool, memorable spot to do it."

Blackmon's 200th career homer, on the 11th anniversary of his MLB debut, gave the Rockies a reason to celebrate after losing four straight.

"It was serendipitous for Chuck but we've seen him do this before," Rockies manager Bud Black said. "How ironic. That was a big swing for us. That was a really good swing. Gave us a huge lift."

The Giants jumped out early with a two-run homer from Wilmer Flores, followed by an RBI single from Luis Gonzalez. That countered a Connor Joe leadoff homer for the Rockies to get them on the board. Joe went 2-for-4 with a homer, a stolen base, and scoring twice.

Joe has reached base safely in 33 straight games, the second-longest streak in the league. The umpires initially ruled Joe's homer a double before overturning it via replay.

"When I was watching it, the way Joc (Pederson) went up for it, the way it came back into play so quickly, everything just added up where it was off the top of the wall," Joe said. "We didn't hear a sound or anything so I just thought it was a double off the top of the wall and I was pretty pumped about that."

Antonio Senzatela is expected to get the ball for the Rockies in this one, while the Giants are to go with Alex Wood, who has lost his last three starts and has given up 10 runs in 14 innings. That's finger-licking time for the Rockies.

Prediction

The Rockies are 0-7 this season when they're a road dog of +150 or more. That changes on Wednesday. Wood has been expected to pitch better in instances, but has failed to do in those last three starts. The Rockies are laying confident money at you with this one. Rockies win 7-5

Betting trends

Rockies are 0-6 as a road dog between +150 and +200 this season.

Rockies are 8-10 against left-handed starters this season.

Giants are 105-71 in night games the past three seasons.

The over is 20-3 the past three seasons when the Giants are a favorite of -200 or more.
