Rockies - Giants preview and analysis

The San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies will wrap up a three-game series on Wednesday at Oracle Park.

The Giants are coming in with a four-game winning streak and have taken the first two matchups against the banged-up Rockies, who continue to navigate through the waters without their prized free agent Kris Bryant.

His absence has been felt in the lineup, and it's shown. The Giants dominated the second game of the series Tuesday in a 9-2 victory. The Giants, behind 5.1 innings of solid work from Alex Wood, scored three in the second and two in the fourth. Colorado had no answer.

"Promising last couple of games," Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. "You can see how valuable it is to have very competitive at-bats at the bottom of the lineup to turn the lineup over."

Wood was able to dominate with 104 pitches, something that he doesn't in a long time.

"It felt really good to hit that mark," Wood said. "My slider is usually a good groundball pitch for me typically and to be heater dominant and changeup dominant and have that many groundball outs and not allow extra-base hits was really nice."

The lone bright spot for the Rockies was Ty Blach, going 2.2 innings against his former team. Normally we don't call the relief pitcher the star of the night, but that's how bad last game was.

“I was in this role for three or four months back in 2018, so it’s a role I’m very comfortable with,” Blach said. “I know what I’m doing. We’ve got a great group of guys down there and continue to build and try to get some more wins.”

Prediction

One thing we're going to need to take into account here is how the Giants handle the need of the Rockies trying to end this series early. It wouldn't be a shock, but I'd play it safe with the Giants. It's more comfortable to take the favorite in this situation than deal with the unknown. Giants win 6-4
