Season Record

Giants: 75-78, 3rd place NL West
Rockies: 64-83, 5th place NL West

Just a week ago the Giants smacked the Rockies further down by sweeping them 4-0… It was a beating.  Also it took place on the Rockies home field.  This is the time of the season that last place teams like the Rockies put some guys on the shelf for next season and dig through their minor league “call-ups” to see if they can find any light in next season’s tunnel.  The result is almost always more losing.  The Giants for their part can only play for pride at this point as they have no chance of catching the Padres who are 10 games ahead of them in 2nd place of the NL West.

Another National League West beetle of “also-rans”.  These are both losing teams playing in high altitude that has a tendency to make the ball fly.  The NL West games are the best to bet on in the MLB this season.  First, it has been terribly reliable.  Second and most importantly… the games play last… They are late night games on the East Coast and evening games on the west coast.. Meaning after a day of betting football or College or AL East games (Yankees, Sox) you can sit back and see if the West coast will supply relief from your losses or a cherry on your sundae!  The Great Betting Opportunity here is knowing just how bad the Rockies pitching is… and just how bad the Giants are struggling.  The numbers tend to bear out when these teams play… The pitching matchup will be a big deal.  Let’s check the numbers and make a bet.

The San Francisco Giants have won 4 of their last 10 games.  They will come into this game against the horrendous Rockies pitching after just having been kicked around by the Los Angeles Dodgers.  They will be pent up and ready to swing at meatballs!  Do they have enough guys to make redemption possible?... Their injury list is loaded with names from last season’s  100+ win team.Important guys like Brandon Belt, Welker, LaStella, Slater…. It goes on and on. They went 0-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1 against the Atlanta Braves, 1-2 against the Chicago Cubs, and 0-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers during that stretch.

The Colorado Rockies have won 6 of their last 10 games.  They are victims of a bad pitching rotation.  The batting lineup averages out to a top ten team… they hit the ball and score runs.. But on the other end they give up a lot of both hits and runs.  The Denver air is thin because of the high altitude… balls tend to fly off the bat… the Rockies have a roster obnoxiously built for hitting when the only thing they should be worrying about is pitching.  If you have a home field batting advantage… pitching, pitching, pitching should be the name of the game.  They went 2-2 against the Chicago Cubs, 2-1 against the Arizona Cardinals, and 2-1 against the Milwaukee Brewers.  It has been a good stretch for a last place team.

Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants Prediction

Our prediction for Tuesday, September 27th is…  Giants 8 - Rockies 2

There is no reason to think the Rockies will all of a sudden be able to handle the better Giants… after seeing them drop 4 straight games just last week.  The bet is for the Giants on the moneyline… That is the recommendation.  I will personally however bet on the Giants ATS.  If you are up to it… you could also shoot for the bigger return.  (more risk by far).

Players to Watch

Giants: RHP  Logan Webb, 14-9, 3.02 ERA, 151 strikeouts in 182 innings pitched.  1.19 WHIP.  This 25 year old will get some Rockies out early.

Rockies: RHP German Marquez, 8-12, 5.14 ERA, 130 strikeouts in 164 innings pitched.  1.38 WHIP.  “Marquee” is not having a good season… and he will be the weak link in the prediction.   However he is pitching a Giants roster that is depleted of some of their best hitters for the rest of the season.
