Browns vs Chiefs Prediction
The Cleveland Browns are taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in their first NFL game of the regular season schedule. The Browns finished last season in 3rd place of the AFC North with an 11-5 record. They went on to win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wildcard Round of the playoffs but then lost to these Chiefs in the Divisional Round. The Chiefs finished their last NFL season in 1st place of the AFC West with a 14-2 record. They went on to the Super Bowl where they lost to former New England Patriots QB and 7 time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both of these teams will be looking to repeat those great seasons for another shot at a playoff run.
The CLE Browns had a very good preseason this year finishing with a perfect 3-0 record. Case Keenum saw a lot of action in this preseason but their starting quarterback Baker Mayfield finally got some playing time in their last game. Baker Mayfield has been a solid QB ever since coming into the league. He has played 3 seasons in the NFL and has thrown for over 3,500 yards in each season. He has some great running backs to back him up in the run game too. Nick Chubb has rushed for over 1,000 yards in his last 2 seasons and has also averaged over 1,000 rushing yards per season in the 3 that he has played. Kareem Hunt is also there who can be a very electric player when he touches the ball. His pass catchers are very reliable as well as he has Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr at his disposal and they are both big playmakers. They also have acquired Austin Hooper for the tight end position this season. This is a team that went out to get the weapons for Mayfield and he has the capability to utilize them all to their full potential. The Browns' offense can be potent and will be tough for defenses to put a stop to it.
The Chiefs also had a great preseason finishing with a perfect 3-0 record. Patrick Mahomes did not play much but he did get some snaps against the Arizona Cardinals and the Minnesota Vikings. Mahomes has been killing it ever since he came into the league as a starting quarterback. He has thrown for over 4,000 yards in every season he has started, including one 5,000+ yard season, and he is coming off of one where he threw for 4,740 yards. He also has a good young running back in Clyde Edwards-Helaire who is still finding his way in this league but is bound to have a breakout season soon. The pass catchers are also riddled with talent as they possess one of the best tight ends in the league, Travis Kelce, and the fastest player in the league, Tyreek Hill. Mecole Hardman has also shown some amazing playmaking talent near the end of last season and has the potential to be another star in this league. The Chiefs' offense is even more potent than Cleveland's and they have a much more experienced coach running the show as well.
Draftkings sportsbook has the total listed at 53 in this one. Both of these teams have enough offensive power to just keep scoring and driving up the score. The Browns' defense is very good but KC is a wonder-team and it is hard for anybody to stop them once they get going. Cleveland could find themselves behind and chasing the score all game so the over looks like a pretty good bet in this one.

Players to Watch
Cleveland Browns: Jarvis Landry is one player to watch in this game. He led the way for the Browns last season with 72 receptions on 101 targets, 840 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns. In 3 seasons with the Cleveland Browns he has only had 1 with over 1,000 yards receiving. He will be looking to change that and it starts in NFL week 1 with a massive game so watch out for him to make some big plays.
Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes is one player to watch in this game. Last season he completed 390/588 passes for 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He rarely turns the ball over and throws for massive plays every game. Watch for him to make some big throws down field in this one to get that offense started on the right foot to begin the season.
Notable Quotes
"I know our guys are ready. They're itching to go." - Baker Mayfield on his fellow teammates' mindsets coming into the season.
"We didn't change the script, but we went through that pregame mock week. You had a couple preseason games they had played, and we went through that routine I've built. And having that and going against the defense playing a scout-team defense, we came out a little faster and crisper and were able to move the ball." - Patrick Mahomes on what his team did coming into the final preseason game.
