Reds - Brewers preview and analysis
Remember the whole talk of the Milwaukee Brewers doing everything right but hitting the baseball? Well, they hit the baseball long and far on Wednesday and destroyed the Cincinnati Reds in an actual baseball contest, 18-4, in the lovely city of Milwaukee.
Mercifully for the Reds, this torment will end Thursday as the series comes to a close. The bad news? They have to play another series, and another, and another, because we have to be reminded of this team being 3-21 through 24 games and good lord help us all who have to watch them.
Where do we even begin with this onslaught?
Rowdy Tellez hit a grand slam and followed that with another homer to finish with *checks notes* eight RBI because why in the world would anyone want to not deal with these kinds of shenanigans?
Andrew McCutchen turned back the clock to go 4-for-5 with four RBI, and Christian Yelich remembered how to hit a baseball by going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
How bad was this for the Reds? They took a 2-0 lead in the first inning! Mike Moustakas drove in two runs and the Reds had the lead. Things were harmonious. The Reds’ Twitter tweeted about that and seemed like they were going to be having a good day.
Then the Brewers scored two in the bottom of the first to tie the game.
Then came four in the third. Two in the sixth. Four in the seventh. Five in the eighth. If there weren’t enough “He’s Dead, Jim!” gifs to go around, man they were used. All of them. Probably after Telez’s grand slam was that the final nail in the coffin.
There’s nothing else to be said. The Reds are just awful. I hav enever in my life seen a horrible team like this so early. Sure, there were Tigers teams from the past in the early 2000s. I could also compare this to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays – long before the rebrand – and never in my wildest dreams did I think we would go back to the times of having horrible baseball teams.
I wouldn’t even put the Baltimore Orioles from last year in contention. At least we know they were going to be bad with a farm system and some players doing well. Not that that means anything, but good lord someone please trade Joey Votto. Like, now. Get Votto onto a contender. This girl I know would hate that, but do it.
Prediction
How many runs will the Brewers score in this one? 10 seems like a starting point, right? I think they hit 10. Or the Reds could win. I don’t think that makes sense. What makes sense is the Brewers winning. Brewers win 14-0
