Recent Form:

The Reds are 6-4 over their last ten games.  Logging 4 Overs and 6 Unders.  Going 1-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers, Sweep of THESE Miami Marlins 4-0 (Friday - Monday), 1-2 against the Chicago Cubs.  They are the current holders of a nice winning record.

The Marlins are 2-8 over their last ten games.  Notching 4 Overs and 6 Unders.  2-1 against the Washington Nationals, 0-4 against THESE Cincinnati Reds, 0-3 against the Atlanta Braves.  They are the current holders of a cruddy losing record.

Cin Vs Mia, hardly the Dodgers vs Giants.  Miami is 28-32-3 O/U at home.  Cincinnati is 31-28-5 O/U on the road.  So avoid the Over / Under unless you like coin flips.

Statistical Comparison:

The Reds are 6th in MLB batting average .251, 5th in runs scored 648, and 5th in home runs 180.  They are getting runners to cross home plate and in Marlins Park it shouldn’t be much different.

The Reds pitchers are 17th in ERA 4.38, 5th in strikeouts 1226, and 13th in hits allowed by pitcher 1054.  The Reds pitchers are holding the batters back.  Sweeping the Marlins in 4 games is nice but at Wild Card and playoff time the Reds pitchers will be what lets them down.

The Marlins are 23rd in batting average .236, 27th in runs scored 511, and 28th in home runs 126.  The Marlins are near last in every batting category.  Their 53-75 record is actually a pleasant surprise if you were to look at these stat columns first.

The Marlins pitchers are 12th in ERA 3.95, 19th in strikeouts 1081, and 18th in hits allowed by a pitcher 1006.  There is a case to be made that the Marlins pitching staff is pretty good.  The team as a whole is not any good.

Reds Vs Marlins Game Preview:

The Reds will start righty Vladimir Gutierrez 9-4, 3.68 ERA, 73 strikeouts in 93 innings pitched, 1.29 WHIP.  The 25 year old was brought up this season.  He has been chugging along winning as he goes.  Over his last 7 games he’s 5-1, 2.95 ERA.  He’s getting better as he goes and at this rate of improvement he’ll be a star by this time next year.  He has a massive tattoo of a spider on his throat, so I'm gonna nickname him Webslinger.

The Marlins will start righty Sandy Alcantara 7-12, 3.35 ERA, 146 strikeouts in 158 innings of work, 1.12 WHIP.  Sandy has a losing record on the season and a losing record over his brief career.  It’s hard to tell if it’s Sandy or the team. The Reds should run through the Marlins.
