Season Record

Bengals: 4-2, 2nd in AFC North
Ravens: 5-1, 1st in AFC North

So far this season is the best football the Bengals have played in a decade. Cincinnati games are worth watching again…. And not just for entertainment purposes.. They also have reasonable Point Spreads.  For years the Bengals were chalked up by most everybody as an easy contest… then along came Joe Burrow.

The Ravens are in first place in the AFC North and they belong there.  Lamar Jackson is a revelation of what a quarterback can do when they are capable of getting a rushing touchdown whenever or throwing touchdown passes all over the field.  He isn’t limited to just a running QB or just a pocket passer… he can do it all.  He keeps proving that in every matchup.

Bengals vs Ravens Preview and Analysis

Recent Form

The Bengals have lost 2 games this season.  They lost to the Chicago Bears 20-17 and the Green Bay Packers 25-22.  They have won four games.  They beat the Minnesota Vikings in an overtime game 27-24, they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-10, beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-21, and the Detroit Lions 34-11.  The bengals are in a place in the transformation of their team from frog to Prince where they beat the teams they are supposed to beat… Steelers, Jaguars, Lions?  That is not a murderers row.  They will need to get to a place where they beat any team at any time before they are real contenders.

The Ravens lost their first game of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders that, at the time, was coached by the horrible ogre Jon Gruden.  The Final score in overtime was Raiders 33 - Ravens 27.  It has been all winning since!  They had some close calls for sure but a “w” is a “w” and that is all the Ravens have been getting.  They beat the Kansas City Chiefs 36-35, beat the Detroit lions 19-17, beat the Denver Broncos 23-7, beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-25, and beat the until then hot San Diego Chargers 34-6.  The Raven are real contenders.  There is no team in the NFL that they can’t beat if they play to their abilities.  Their leader Lamar Jackson is on the short list for MVP, which would be his second of his young career.

Offensive Analysis

The Cincinnati Bengals are ranked 22nd in NFL offense.  They score 24.7 ppg and gain 344.5 ypg.

The Baltimore Ravens are ranked 4th in the NFL on offense.  They score 28.3 points per game and gain 421.7 yards per game. There was a lot of discussion in the preseason that they should have gotten a big offensive lineman to protect Joe Burrow instead of Wide Receiver Ja’marr Chase… meanwhile Ja’marr Chase is looking like a rookie of the year candidate with big receptions in every game.

Defensive Analysis

The Cincinnati Bengals rank 8th in the NFl on defense.  They have given up 18.5 ppg and 331 ypg.  Again the strength of schedule comes into play here.  They have played an assortment of bad teams… They let the Jaguars drop 21 on them.

The Baltimore Ravens rank 18th in the NFL on defense.  They have given up 20.5 ppg and 359.3 ypg.  They get into a lot of high scoring shootouts: Raiders, Colts, Chiefs… but they win most of them.
