Angels: 36-40; 4th place AL West

Game 3 of this series will be an actual fun watch.  The suspensions for fighting have come down from the league and Game 3 on Wednesday night (along with Game 2 Tuesday Night)... will feature an Angels team with not just a suspended manager, but a suspended interim manager!  So the Angels will be helmed by a temporary interim manager… The Angels will also be playing without their pitching coach, bench coach, and catching coach… Among the important players to be suspended for the Angels… really only third basemen Anthony Rendon is of any importance.  The Angels beat the White Sox in Game 1 of the series on Monday night. Game two is Tuesday and should (for the Angels) be dominated by pride and emotion, but THIS game, Game 3 will be emotionally difficult.  The manager and 3 position coaches will still be gone.  The work will have to be mostly self motivated… and by then they should be on a three-game winning streak making it harder to dig deep.  The White Sox on the other hand are simply not winners this season.  The White Sox seem close to the Angels in record but that is due to the extremely soft AL Central.  The White Sox can beat the Angels but the numbers say it will be an uphill batting with slightly worse batting and worse pitching numbers.

An American League matchup between middling teams that lack complete identities and routinely embarrass themselves in front of their home crowds.  To be at the middle of a bad division or near the bottom of a worse division leaves little faith in the numbers… still the numbers exist.  In cases like this if you want to win a wager… the pathway is beset with actual hard-boiled judgements.  Those hard-core judgements have to start with the pitching matchup… and then move on to literal “gut feelings” .  The Angels are at home with good weather… The White Sox are on the road literally a 45 minute drive from one of the best cities in the world!  Who will ride a wave of good feelings (backed by betting trends and situational matchups) to a win?

The Chicago White Sox have won 4 of the last 10 games.  They are on a 4 game losing streak.  They have zero two-win pitchers over that stretch.  Hitters Jose Abreu (9 homers) and Tim Anderson (BA .346) have made little difference in the win column.  They went 0-3 against the Baltimore Orioles, 2-1 against the Toronto Blue jays, 1-2 against the Houston Astros, and a big (13-0) win over the Detroit Tigers.

The Los Angeles Angels have won 5 of their last 10 games.  They are on a two-game losing streak. RHP Shohei Ohtani is the two-game winner of this stretch on this team… and possibly the best player in all of baseball.  That is what the Angels have… the bats of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.  They went 0-2 against the Seattle Mariners, 1-2 against the Kansas City Royals, 4-1 against the Seattle Mariners.  The Angels spent the better half of the last two weeks beating the Seattle Mariners and then the all of the last 3 days losing to the Mariners.  The Angels stink and owe Ohtani and Trout trades to contenders before they are forgotten in the sands of time.

Chicago White Sox vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction

Our prediction for Wednesday June 29th is…  Angels 7 - White Sox 2

The Chicago White Sox will be due by Game 3 to get a win off of the Angels.  Too bad they will have to face superstar Shohei Ohtani.  The White Sox just do not have a pitcher of his equal…

MLB Betting Trends

The Angels are 7-4 (+4.6 Units) against the White Sox over the last 3 seasons.
3 of 4 games between these teams have gone UNDER this season.

Key Injuries

White Sox: 2B J. Harrison (tricep) Quest ** C Y. Grandal (back) Out 3B Y. Moncada (hamstring) Out ** LF E. Jimenez (hamstring) Out ** CF A. Engel (hamstring) Out ** SS D. Mendick (knee) Out **

Angels: LF T. Ward (hamstring) Out ** SS D. Fletcher (groin) Out **

Players to Watch

White Sox: RHP Michael Kopech, 2-4, 2.59 ERA, 57 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched.  1.01 WHIP.  “Kopey” is a kid with limited experience, yet threatening to be a solid pro.  His Whip is good, his ERA is good this season. His losing record is the fault of the team he is on.

Angels: RHP Shohei Ohtani, 6-4, 2.90 ERA, 90 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.  1.01 WHIP.  “Showtime” is the best 2-way baseball player since Babe Ruth.  He is top-five among guys that any other team would jump to acquire.  He solves two problems in one player by being a solid starting pitcher and amazing batter at the same time.  He is worth paying $50 million a year one day because he will outplay a 25 million dollar pitcher and a 25 million dollar power hitter.  Real baseball immortality demands that Shohei start demanding a trade from the inept Angels.  Like Mike Trout all of his accomplishments will be of no value if he spends too many seasons on the Angels.  The Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, and Giants are more appropriate uniforms for this type of talent.

Starting Lineups

Angels:  LF Brandon Marsh, DH Mike Trout, 3B David McKinnon, 1B Jared Walsh, 2B Matt Duffy, RF Juan Lagares, C Kurt Suzuki, CF Tyler Wade, SS Andrew Velazquez

White Sox: SS Tim Anderson, DH Andrew Vaughn, CF Luis Robert, 1B Jose Abreu, LF AJ Pollock, RF Gavin Sheets, C Seby Zavala, 3B Josh Harrison, 2B Lenyn Sosa

Managers

White Sox: Tony “friend to the dinosaurs” La Russa

Angels: Phil Nevin is suspended so the interim manager will have an interim manager… So I simply will not learn yet another name.

Weather Forecast

Partly cloudy but still hot.  93* with 38% humidity… feels terrible in Anaheim (the gateway to the desert).  There is 0% chance of precipitation with light winds at 9 mph, but those winds tend to be at higher altitudes than the feeling on your skin.  It’s odd to think that a 45 minute drive AWAY from Los Angeles will lead to such a different climate… but it does.
