Game 2 of this series will be a fun watch.  The Los Angeles Angels got into a serious brawl in the final game of their series against the Seattle Mariners in Anaheim on Sunday night.  It was more than a baseball “scuffle”... It was pure punches thrown, almost hockey action, for a few of the guys!  (Fun that it took place on the same night as the NHL Finals came to a finish in Game 6).  The crux of the altercation began when Angel home run hitter Mike Trout felt the Mariners should have simply walked him instead of throwing at his head while trying to throw around him for a walk on Saturday night.  The Mariners chose that approach because Mike Trout has hit more home runs against the Mariners than any other player (career 53) and in this series Mike had 5 dingers in 5 games!! He feasts on Seattle pitching regularly. The Mariners were teasing and testing and that is clear.  Next Game when the Angels pitchers started throwing at Mariners batters the tensions built and built… until the explosion.  The result will be suspensions… the immediate benefit will be for the White Sox.  The Angels already were not very tough of a team… but missing a handful of guys will hobble them even further. The good thing for the Angels is that the key guys ejected from Sunday’s game were simply not key guys.

An American League matchup between middling teams that lack complete identities and routinely embarrass themselves in front of their home crowds.  To be at the middle of a bad division or near the bottom of a worse division leaves little faith in the numbers… still the numbers exist.  In cases like this if you want to win a wager… the pathway is beset with actual hard-boiled judgements.  Those hard-core judgements have to start with the pitching matchup… and then move on to literal “gut feelings” .  The Angels are at home with good weather… The White Sox are on the road literally a 45 minute drive from one of the best cities in the world!  Who will ride a wave of good feelings (backed by betting trends and situational matchups) to a win?

The Chicago White Sox have won 4 of the last 10 games.  They are on a 4 game losing streak.  They have zero two-win pitchers over that stretch.  Hitters Jose Abreu (9 homers) and Tim Anderson (BA .346) have made little difference in the win column.  They went 0-3 against the Baltimore Orioles, 2-1 against the Toronto Blue jays, 1-2 against the Houston Astros, and a big (13-0) win over the Detroit Tigers.

The Los Angeles Angels have won 5 of their last 10 games.  They are on a two-game losing streak. RHP Shohei Ohtani is the two-game winner of this stretch on this team… and possibly the best player in all of baseball.  That is what the Angels have… the bats of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.  They went 0-2 against the Seattle Mariners, 1-2 against the Kansas City Royals, 4-1 against the Seattle Mariners.  The Angels spent the better half of the last two weeks beating the Seattle Mariners and then the all of the last 3 days losing to the Mariners.  The Angels stink and owe Ohtani and Trout trades to contenders before they are forgotten in the sands of time.

Chicago White Sox vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction

Our prediction for Tuesday June 28th is…  Angels 3 - White Sox 2

That’s right… Even with the threat of ejections coming down the pike, the Angels will be more gelled as a club and will walk over the lowly White Sox. Sometimes fights do that.  The chip on the shoulder becomes shared and the camaraderie grows.

Players to Watch

White Sox: RHP Johnny Cueto, 1-4, 3.19 ERA, 40 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched. 1.15 WHIP. 36 year old Johnny Cueto is a solid guy who has had better years. His team is a mess.. He won’t get the necessary run support to get a win.  But maybe neither will the Angels?

Angels: Interim manager.  Phil Nevin

Weather Forecast

Partly cloudy but still hot, hot, hot.  93* with 38% humidity… might make the folks in Dallas laugh… but feels terrible in Anaheim (the gateway to the desert).  There is 0% chance of precipitation with light winds at 9 mph, but those winds tend to be at higher altitudes than the feeling on your skin.  It’s odd to think that a 45 minute drive AWAY from Los Angeles will lead to such a different climate… but it does.
