Recent Form:

The Chicago White Sox are 4-6 over their last ten games.  Dropping 5 of 7 to the Kansas City Royals and winning 2 of 3 from the Cleveland indians.  It’s an odd time of the year for the AL Central leaders to wilt against a relatively easy portion of the schedule.

The Chicago Cubs are 3-7 over their last ten games. Dropping 2 of 3 to the Colorado Rockies, dropping 2 of 3 to the Washington Nationals, and dropping 3 of 4 to the Cincinnati Reds.  For a full list of things they have dropped I could keep writing this paragraph until September… but then I'd miss my press deadline.

Series History:

Over the last two seasons the White Sox and Cubs have split 10 games 5-5.  This Windy City series should skew things toward the White Sox, who will be dreaming of October (unfounded rumor), while sending the Cubs headlong into the offseason... to dream of April.

These are fun rivals like Yankees vs Dodgers, Dodgers vs Giants, Red Sox vs Yankees. They share a city, a pizza and most years can only brag about beating each other.

Statistical Comparison:

The White Sox are 7th in team batting average, 8th in runs scored, and 13th in total hits. The offense is due to recover from the recent stretch of games that have disappointed money line betters.

The Cubs are 28th in team batting average, 11th in runs scored, and 5th in total hits.  The hits are producing runs… These numbers make no sense at first until you look at the pitching stats.  The Cubs are 15th in team ERA at 4.27 but are below average in the league in runs allowed (503).  They give up more runs than they score.  That's why they are languishing and the batting stats are all over the place.

White Sox vs CubsPreview:

The White Sox will trot Carlos Rodon out to the mound.  He’s a lefty with an 8-5 record, 2.49 ERA, and 149 strikeouts. He’s 2-3 with a 3.55 ERA over the last 7 games, so a good game against the lowly Cubs would help raise his trajectory.

Only when 2 teams share a city do I get to say the home team is not the home favorite.  The Cubs are the home team for these next few games of the season series… but my mlb odds has them as the underdog.  The first pitch for the Cubs will be thrown by Adbert Alzolay, a righty, who has gone 4-11 with a 4.35 ERA, and 99 strikeouts on the season.  What else can I say about Adbert?  His whip is 1.18?  This is a middle of a series start that the Cubs may not expect to win.

Trends:

White Sox:  The White Sox have hit a rough patch of plate, going 3-7 on the moneyline over the last ten while recording 7 Unders and 3 Overs.

Cubs:  The Cubs have gone 2-8 on the moneyline over the last ten games, while recording 6 Overs, 3 Unders, and 1 Push.
