Blackhawks - Flyers preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Blackhawks: won 4-3 (OT) vs. Sabres
Flyers: won 5-2 vs. Ducks

The Chicago Blackhawks will be playing the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, January 19 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Chicago Blackhawks won against the Buffalo Sabres last Tuesday, January 17 in Chicago, Illinois with a score of 4-3 in overtime. The Chicago Blackhawks currently rank 8th in the Central Division.  Seth Jones scored at 2:24 of overtime after tying it with 56 seconds left in the third period. Philipp Kurashev had a goal and two assists, and Johnson had two assists for the Blackhawks. Petr Mrazek made 30 saves.

"It feels really good," Jones said. "You know, we didn't start the way we wanted to in this game, and after the second [period] we came in here and it was all positive talk and what we needed to do and tie it up and get back in the game. And we did that.

"It's always good when the [defensemen] get involved and help the forwards out putting the puck in the net. We haven't done it enough this year, so it's nice to kind of start getting that going for us in the second half."

The run for Connor Bedard is truly on for the Blackhawks. They’ll have the occasional win like they did against Buffalo, but there’s nothing else more to it. Eyes will be on them before the trade deadline in what they do with Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews. Then the fun begins with them tanking toward the bottom. They’ve gone 4-6 in the last 10, which should die down at some point.

The Philadelphia Flyers won against the Anaheim Ducks last Tuesday, January 17 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a score of 5-2. The Philadelphia Flyers currently rank 7th in the Metropolitan Division. Kevin Hayes scored his first NHL hat trick for the Philadelphia Flyers. Rasmus Ristolainen had a goal and an assist, and Morgan Frost scored for the Flyers. Samuel Ersson made 25 saves for Philadelphia and won his fifth straight start.

"I think you need to answer," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "Both teams played last night. We really spent a lot of our [pregame] meeting just talking about being simple and trying to play as fast as we can. I think in the back to backs, the team that starts the quickest I think has the biggest edge.

"I thought we had a really good first period. It was worrisome in how their goalie played, only coming away with one. They score, the team could have tightened up a little bit. But I thought we just stayed with it."

The Flyers have been on a surprising run of eight wins in 10 games, but that run has always seen to be dying down at some point. The Flyers are a team that can’t be trusted. Tortorella can’t be trusted with this team down the road, though it does help to get them at home much like the other day.

Prediction

The fact that it is at home gives me a little more confidence in the Flyers to get a win, and that’s what we’re rolling with. Flyers 3, Blackhawks 2
