Bears - Seahawks preview and analysis

Last week
Bears: lost 17-9 vs. Vikings (Monday)
Seahawks: lost 20-10 at Rams (Tuesday)

It is likely we're seeing the end of two coaching reigns on the field Sunday. The winner won't necessarily keep their job, but we like to make sure all our bases are covered because it's likely.

The Seattle Seahawks will host the Chicago Bears in a pro football contest. The Bears are officially eliminated from playoff contention, as one would expect. The Seahawks are still clinging to life but they'd need to win out and get some serious help along the way, which I'd say is unlikely.

Seattle's playoff hopes took a shot on Tuesday in the 20-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. After winning two straight games against the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans, the Seahawks fell back a bit against that really good Rams defense.

Russell Wilson threw for just 156 yards on 17 of 31 passing, and the Seahawks only had 214 yards of total offense. The Rams held the ball for just over 10 minutes longer.

"There's so many moments in that game I felt like we could have capitalized," Wilson said. "I think that we've always created such a high standard of playing and found ways to win these close games, and this year, unfortunately, we weren't able to do it."

Perhaps good news for the Seahawks this week is that they're facing a Bears team that isn't any better offensively. Chicago put up just 9 points in the Monday night loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Justin Fields had his best game, throwing for a career-high 285 yards and a touchdown, but nothing else beyond that.

The Bears also lost a game despite Kirk Cousins throwing for 87 yards on 12 of 24 passing. That's about as  apropos as one can get with this Chicago team. Your rookie quarterback can have a great game, your defense can play great, but you still find ways to lose.

"That's been the story, that's been the story of the year," Fields said. "It's just us shooting ourselves in the foot. Once we eliminate those penalties, sacks on my part where I should just throw the ball away, throw the ball down to the ground — once we eliminate those, we start seeing more points come up on the board and have more success. I thought our whole defense played great tonight and put us in a position to win."

Prediction

There's really no winner here, especially us for watching this. The Seahawks, based on them being at home, should win this game. Wilson is one win from tying Peyton Manning for the most wins all-time by a quarterback in his first 10 seasons. That gets done on Sunday. Seahawks by 14
