Season Record

Bears: 2-2 (NFC North)
Raiders: 3-1 (AFC West)

The Bears are a very surprising 2-2.  If all this quarterback drama was to happen to just about any other team they would be under .500, but the Bears have a strong defense and got to play the Detroit Lions in Week 4.  Who is the quarterback BTW?  Is it rookie Justin Field? The elderly, ginger, veteran Andy Dalton?  Is Mitch Trubisky really gone? What team does Matthew Stafford play for?... can we get him?  With the NFl season still in its infancy and the postseason a long way off... these questions and more will plague the Bears and Matt Nagy until it is over or they settle on Nick Foles.

Chicago Bears vs Las Vegas Raiders Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM

The Chicago Bears lost game 1 to the Los Angeles Rams 34-14.  Game 2 brought a surprise win over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17.  Bears interim quarterback Andy Dalton got hurt in that game forcing the Bears to start their real quarterback Justin Fields in game 3.  Game 3 was an absolute disaster of a loss to the Cleveland Browns.  Justin Fields had the worst day in recent quarterback history.  He was sacked 9 times (that's a lot of sacks!) and threw interceptions and generally looked confused.  Coach Matt Nagy had neglected to prepare Justin Fields for actual playtime. Matt was focused on keeping his job by starting Andy Dalton,  is the story the media tells.  Game 4 was a lucky break with the Detroit Lions on the schedule (as it is for every team with the Lions on the schedule) that led to a win 24-14.

The Oakland Raiders began playing in Las Vegas last season when no fans were allowed to attend games because of an odd virus emergency that swept the nation.  This season the Las Vegas Raiders opened the season with a win over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens 33-27.  Game 2 brought another win over dinosaur Ben Rothelisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-17.  Game 3 the Raiders really started to roll with a win over the Miami Dolphins 31-28.  Derek Carr was riding high with MVP whispers starting to creep into social media mentions (better than the sports press these days) as his play seemed flawless.  Game 4 was an odd duck as the former Los Angeles Raiders... who moved to Oakland... who then moved to Las Vegas visited Los Angeles and met an actual MVP candidate in Justin Herbert and his Los Angeles Chargers who had recently moved to Los Angeles from San Diego.  The Chargers spanked the Raiders  28-14.

Look out Vegas, Khalil Mack is making a return of sorts to rip the head off the team that traded him instead of paying him.

Offensive Analysis

The Chicago Bears are struggling mightily on offense.  They are only scoring 16 points per game.  That is last place.  It’s 2 points less than the Jacksonville Jaguars.  The Bears offense is only gaining 237 yards per matchup.  The QB position is a toss up either Justin Fields or Andy Dalton could play depending on health.  RB David Montgomery is pulling down 77 yards rushing per game.  WR Darnell Mooney has 17 receptions with help from Allen Robinson II and TE Cole Kmet.

The Las Vegas Raiders are cooking in the Nevada sun. QB Derek Carr is 109-170 for a 64.1% completion percentage 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  He has been sacked 12 times because his line is inconsistent… or maybe he holds the ball too long.  RB Peyton Barber nets a slim 47 yards per game, because this is a passing team.  WR Henry Ruggs III leads the team in receiving but TE Darren Waller and WR Hunter Renfrow are only a few yards behind him.

Defensive Analysis

The Bears defense gives up 22.8 points per game and 380.3 yards per game.  The numbers would be worse if it wasn’t for the woeful Lions.

The Raiders defense gave up 21 points in the first half of a Monday Night Football game they would like to forget. In general they are giving up 25 points per game and allowing 374 yards per.

Bears vs Raiders Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday October 10th is… Raiders 25 -  Bears 13

The Raiders will win the game and ATS… I would steer clear of the O/U in Bears games until Matt Nagy is fired and the team decides on a clear direction.  That isn’t an endorsement for the Under either as the Bears D will give up at some point if the Offense isn’t pitching in for a lame duck coach and GM.

Players to Watch

Bears:  Whoever is the quarterback.  We have to watch that person closely so we know how to complain about Matt Nagy later.

Vegas: Derek Carr.  Last Raider week aside, Derek is really playing like a possible MVP.  He’ll need to complete drives and avoid takeaways to keep his case alive.
