Bills - Lions preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Bills: won 31-23 vs. Browns (home game in Detroit)
Lions: won 3 straight; won 31-18 at Giants

Well, the good news for the Buffalo Bills is that they do not have to go very far for their next game period I get it it was probably by design, but it's still funny nonetheless. Thanks to a giant snowstorm that ravaged the city of Buffalo, the Bills had to relocate to Detroit for their last game against the Cleveland Browns. Now they get to stay there because they are playing on Thursday against the red-hot Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

It was a rocky start for Buffalo on Sunday looking like they were overwhelmed against Cleveland in the first half. Buffalo couldn't get anything going offensively and had a tough time moving the ball against the Cleveland defense. But everything changed in the second-half when the Bills started finding their groove offensively, especially on the ground. Devin Singletary ran for 86 yards and a touchdown to offset an off day from Josh Allen, who threw for just 197 yards and a touchdown.

Despite the score reading closer than it should have been, Buffalo did a very good job holding Cleveland running back Nick Chubb to well below his season average in both rushing and just total yards from scrimmage in general. Cleveland quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns, one of the better days a quarterback has had against this Bills defense all year, but eventually, it was not enough. Although it would have helped if Buffalo could get somebody to cover Amari Cooper, who reeled in 113 yards and two touchdowns.

"When you go through a shared experience like this, it can bring a team closer together," coach Sean McDermott said.

It hasn't been the best couple of weeks for the Bills, especially after how everything went down against the Minnesota Vikings last week in what was the game of the year. I feel like Buffalo needed to come out with a little bit more urgency to put this game away as soon as possible. However, the Browns appeared to just hang around because of their defense and the fact that they were able to make life hell for Allen in the pocket.

So now they have to shift gears and try and take down a scorching hot Detroit team that has won three games in a row and is suddenly not out of things when it comes to the playoff picture. Although Detroit would need probably a few more wins in order to actually achieve that goal, for the first time in his tenure, head coach Dan Campbell is looking like he has control of his locker room.

This can arguably be listed as the Lions’ best win of the season. To go on the road and not just beat the New York Giants, but absolutely dominate them, has to feel like the best possible scenario for this Detroit team. Running back Jamal Williams ran for three consecutive touchdowns to turn a 6-3 giants lead into a 24-6 Lions lead in the blink of an eye. Jared Goff only threw for 165 yards, but the offense didn't need to do much considering the defense did everything it could to make giants quarterback Daniel Jones's life a living hell.

"Everything that we said we had to do and needed to do to beat this team, we did that for almost all of the game," Campbell said. "There were a couple of spots in there. These guys are playing their (butts) off and they're starting to figure out a way to win."

It has been a long time since Detroit had a meaningful Thanksgiving game to look forward to. They've had games before where the opponent has come to town and has piqued the interest of the Detroit crowd. Lions fans should be very proud of this team, even though it is not the flashiest of teams and even though it is not the most explosive of teams, Detroit is getting a hard-working group right now and that is saying a lot.

The question is though, is it enough to take the Lions with 9 1/2 points?

Prediction

If I am a Bills fan, I am slightly concerned with how the last few weeks have unfolded. Between losing to The Jets and then the Vikings, and then to wrap it up with a sort of good defensive showing against Cleveland, I think Detroit with the way it's playing right now has the capability of keeping this game close. And I think if that line were to change anytime soon you might wanna consider hammering Detroit with the points right now. Bills by 7
