Boston College Eagles Analysis

Boston College is coming into this game with a 4-0 record overall and they are 2-0 in their road games this season where they will be in this game. This will be their first game of the regular season on the conference schedule. Their 4 wins came against the Colgate Raiders, the UMass Minutemen, the Temple Owls, and against Missouri in their last game. That was a close game as it came down to the Eagle winning it in overtime 41-34. Dennis Grosel did not have the best game in that one as he completed 18/29 passes for 175 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Pat Garwo III had a massive day in the run game as he led the team in rushing with 175 yards and 2 touchdowns on 25 carries. Zay Flowers led their receivers with 62 yards and 1 TD on 8 receptions while CJ Lewis put up 52 receiving yards on 2 receptions. Brandon Sebastian led the defense with 6 solo tackles, 1 assisted one, and 1 interception while Isaiah Graham-Mobley had the same minus the INT. Josh DeBerry was also able to come away with an interception in that game but no one on the defense managed to get a sack. They have scored 165 points in their first 4 games and they have allowed their opponents to score 65 points against them. Their offense is averaging 417.3 YPG while their defense is allowing 290 YPG.

Clemson Tigers Analysis

Clemson is coming into this game with a 2-2 record overall and they are 2-0 in their home games this season where they will be in this game. This will be their 3rd conference matchup of the season and they are already 1-1 in their conference games this year. Their 2 wins came against the South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets while their 2 losses came against the Georgia Bulldogs in their season opener and the North Carolina State Wolfpack in their last game. That game ended up going to overtime where the Tigers lost 27-21. DJ Uiagalelei struggled in that game as he completed 12/26 passes for 111 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. They did not have much of a run game in that one as he also led the team in rushing with 68 yards on 9 carries. Justyn Ross led the team in receiving with 77 yards and 2 touchdowns on 8 receptions but other than that, it was a pretty quiet day for their receiving corps. Baylon Spector led the defense with 9 solo tackles and 10 assisted ones while Andrew Mukuba also had a nice game with 7 solo tackles and 3 assisted ones. Xavier Thomas led the defense in sacks with 2 while Nolan Turner also recorded 1 but no one on the defense was able to come up with an interception in that game. They have scored 87 points in their first 4 games and they have allowed their opponents to score 48 points against them. Their offense is averaging 295.8 YPG while their defense is allowing 296.5 YPG.

Boston College vs Clemson Prediction

Clemson still has a very good defense this year as they have only allowed 1 opponent in 4 games to score over 10 points against them. The same cannot be said for their offense though. The fact of the matter is, they only have 1 win out of their 3 games this season against FBS opponents. What is even worse is, they have scored over 20 points in just 1 of those and it was in the game that they lost. They started the year as a top 3 team in the country and they have now been demoted to 25th on the AP poll. This is clearly not the same team that it has been for years so this game will be closer than people think. Their defense will likely keep them in it as Boston College will struggle to score on them but, BC's offense has been good this year and they are riding high with their undefeated record so they will find a way to break through eventually. The spread in this game is very generous and is giving a lot of respect to what looks like a washed up Clemson team. All of the value here is on Boston College to cover the spread as they will manage to either keep it close all game or still cover in a very low scoring game where no offense breaks through. The best bet here is on Boston College to cover.

Players to Watch

Boston College Eagles: Denis Grosel is one player to watch in this game. He has been great since taking over for Jurkovec after he was injured. The Eagles are undefeated and with Clemson not looking like Clemson recently, look for Grosel to take advantage and try to steal a conference win from them in this one.

Clemson Tigers: DJ Uiagalelei is one player to watch here. He is the quarterback on this team and he must lead his offense as they do not look good in their games. It all starts with him so look for him to step up his game here and try to fix the offensive problems that Clemson has been having.

Notable Quotes

"The next thing I know I had like 5,000 people on my back. It was a blur." - Jeff Hafley on his team’s first 4-0 start since NFL quarterback Matt Ryan led them to an 8-0 start back in 2007.

"The criticism is warranted because that's where we are right now. That's what we displayed. With the way we've performed, you're going to get criticism and you're going to get comments and things like that. You know what? That comes with the territory because the expectation and the standard at Clemson and who we are, we're not meeting it. It's just that simple." - Dabo Swinney on the way his offense has been playing in their first 4 games this season.
