Big Al's Daily Angle: NFL, MLB, WNBA and NCAAF Previews and Odds - 09/16/2021

The Thursday sports card features action in the NFL, NCAAF, MLB, and the WNBA. 

The NFL kicks off Week 2 of the regular season with Washington hosting the New York Giants on the NFL Network at 8:20 PM ET. The Football Team was upset on Sunday by the Los Angeles Chargers, 20-16, as a 2-point favorite. The Giants got beat, 27-13, at home against Denver as a 3-point underdog. 

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick joined wide receiver Curtis Samuel on Injured Reserve this week after injuring his hip Sunday. Ron Rivera has named Taylor Heinicke his starting quarterback. Running back Antonio Gibson is probable despite a shoulder injury. New York will again be without tight end Evan Engram, who missed the Broncos game with a knee injury. Running back Saquon Barkley is probable despite his lingering knee issues. Washington is a 3-point favorite with the total set at 41 (all odds from DraftKings). 

One game begins Week 3 in college football. Louisiana-Lafayette plays at home against Ohio on ESPN at 8 PM ET. The Ragin’ Cajuns evened their record at 1-1 with a 27-24 victory at home against Nicholls State as a 26-point favorite on Saturday. The Bobcats fell to 0-2 on the season after getting upset for the second straight week in a 28-26 loss at home to Duquesne as a 28.5-point favorite on Saturday. Louisiana is a 21-point favorite with an over/under of 57. 

Nine games are on the MLB docket. Six games start in the afternoon. Atlanta hosts Colorado at 12:20 PM ET as a -170 money line favorite with a total of 8. The Braves pitch Ian Anderson against the Rockies' German Marquez. Cincinnati plays at Pittsburgh at 12:35 PM ET as a -145 money line road favorite with an over/under of 8.5. Tyler Mahle pitches for the Reds against Connor Overton of the Pirates. Two games being at 2:10 PM ET. The Chicago White Sox are at home against the Los Angeles Angels as a -180 money line favorite with a total of 8. The White Sox pitch Reynaldo Lopez against the Angels'  Alex Cobb. Oakland plays at Kansas City as a -125 money line road favorite with an over/under of 9.5. Paul Blackburn pitches for the A's against Daniel Lynch of the Royals. San Francisco is at home against San Diego at 3:45 PM ET as a -150 money line favorite with a total of 8.5. The Giants pitch Kevin Gausman against a Padres starting pitcher yet to be determined. The New York Yankees are at Baltimore at 5:05 PM ET as a -250 money line road favorite with an over/under of 10. Jordan Montgomery pitches for the Yankees against Chris Ellis of the Orioles.

Philadelphia is at home against the Chicago Cubs at 6:05 PM ET as a -220 money line favorite with a total of 8. The Cubs pitch Kyle Hendricks against a Phillies starting pitcher yet to be named. Tampa Bay plays at home against Detroit as a -210 money line favorite with an over/under of 8.5. Dietrich Enns pitches for the Rays against Tyler Alexander of the Tigers. Houston plays at Texas at 8:05 PM ET as a -235 money line road favorite with a total of 9. The Astros pitch Framber Valdez against the Rangers' Glenn Otto.

One game is on the WNBA slate. Los Angeles travels to Atlanta at 7 PM ET.
