Baylor - Texas preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Baylor: lost 29-28 vs. No. 4 TCU
Texas: won 55-14 at Kansas

I do wonder how it feels for either the Baylor bears or the Texas Longhorns to not be the best team in Texas this year. If anybody else would have thought that I think we all would have probably laughed. Instead in the span of two weeks, both of these teams have lost to the best team in Texas which is TCU.

And now after a rough couple weeks for both of these programs that once had Big 12 championship aspirations, Baylor and Texas will meet up for the regular season finale inside Austin for what could only be described as the why in the world am I here game?

Baylor nearly shocked the world on Saturday. Everything was right in its grasp. They had played well enough defense to put the game on the leg of a kicker, TCU had no timeouts and they had to rush the field to get a good field goal opportunity off. And in the blink of an eye, it was the greatest kick in college football history because college kickers actually did their job and what they are getting a scholarship for.

Baylor quarterback Blake shapen threw for 269 yards and a touchdown, as well as an interception, Craig Williams ran for 112 yards, and Monaray Baldwin caught six passes for 123 yards. This was a Baylor offense that put up 500 total yards of offense and at one point lead this game 28-20 with 9:47 remaining. and yet somehow baylor's defense ultimately failed itself.

"It's a tough locker room," Baylor coach Dave Aranda said. "I told them that I wish that we, that I, could take the pain away."

Baylor's run last year was in a sense exciting and fun. It had all the makings of a Cinderella ending that only the Big 12 could love. Now that the bears have fallen to 6-5 and have seemingly reduced themselves to some game in the Texas bowl or something like that, we can all move on from what was a disappointing season for Baylor.

I'm not sure we can say the same for Texas. On one hand they are going to a bowl game, on the other hand they lost a number of games to ranked opponents that would have absolutely switched their fortune into a good light. But Texas is ultimately 7-4 and is now basically hoping for any respectable bowl game.

The Longhorns are coming off a 55-14 victory over Kansas in which Bijan Robinson ran for 243 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. If there is any bright spot this year for Texas, it is 100% the play of its star running back.

"We've got a bunch of fighters. We have a great deal of resiliency. These guys have showed an unbelievable amount of perseverance, and I told them that in the locker room," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. "I was proud of them. I was very proud of them for the maturity they showed in this game."

Prediction

Normally I would pick the better defense in this situation but quite honestly, we don't really know who has the better defense here. Instead I would go with the home team that has played well at home all year long and it should be able to run all over this Baylor defense for a strong victory. Texas by 17
