Atlanta Falcons Analysis

The Falcons are coming into this matchup with a 0-2 record to start the season and are also 0-1 on the road where they will be in this game. They lost their season opener at home against the Philadelphia Eagles and then followed them up with a loss on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both of their losses were by more than 20 points but they looked a lot better in their last game than they did in their first. Matt Ryan struggled a lot in the second half but he ended up completing 35/46 passes for 300 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. They had no run game in that one as Mike Davis led the team with 38 rushing yards on 9 carries. Kyle Pitts led the receivers with 73 yards on 5 receptions while Calvin Ridley had 63 yards and 1 TD on 7 receptions. Erik Harris led the defense with 5 solo tackles in that game. Deion Jones, Dante Fowler Jr. and Marlon Davidson all recorded 1 sack each in that game and no one on the defense had an interception. They have scored 31 points in their first 2 games and they have allowed their opponents to score 80 points against them. Their offense has accumulated 608 total yards while their defense has allowed 775 yards against them.

New York Giants Analysis

The Giants are coming into this game with a 0-2 record overall and they are 0-1 in their home games this season where they will be in this game. They lost their first game of the season against the Denver Broncos and then they followed that up with a division loss against the Washington Football Team in their last game. Daniel Jones played well in that game as he completed 22/32 passes for 249 yards and 1 touchdown. He also led the team in rushing in that game with 95 yards and 1 TD. Saquon Barkley had 57 rushing yards on 13 carries. Sterling Shepard led the receivers with 94 yards on 9 receptions. James Bradberry led the defense with 6 solo tackles, 1 assisted one, and 1 interception. That was the only interception for them in that game while Azeez Ojulari had the only sack for his team in that one. They have scored 42 points in their first 2 games and they have allowed their opponents to score 57 points against them. Their offense has accumulated 705 total yards this season while their defense has allowed 827 yards against them.

Falcons vs Giants Prediction

Both of these teams have started their season 0-2 so someone will be coming away from this game with their first win of the regular season... most likely. Both teams had their good moments in their last game but both also had a lot of mistakes made. It is hard to believe that both will right the ship right away here so the over is a good play. Both teams are coming off of games where their offenses looked good and were able to score points while their mistakes usually cost them some points. This one could be a game that goes back and forth as both look to get their first win and since the point total is so low here, the over is  the best bet to make.

NFL Betting Trends

Atlanta Falcons: 4-13 ATS in games where the line is +3 to -3. 14-19 ATS in all games.
New York Giants: 4-2 ATS in a home game where the total is between 45.5 and 49 points. 16-9 ATS against conference opponents.

Key Injuries

Atlanta Falcons:  F. Darby (WR) day-to-day - Calf injury. A. Terrell (CB) day-to-day - Concussion injury. R. Gage (WR) day-to-day - Ankle injury.
New York Giants:  N. Gates (C) out for season - Leg injury. E. Engram (TE) day-to-day - Calf injury. C. Brown (LB) day-to-day - Hamstring injury.

Players to Watch

Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan is one player to watch in this game. He is the leader on this offense and is also a seasoned veteran quarterback. They looked good on offense last week and that outcome would have looked much different if he did not throw those interceptions. Look for him to be better with his passes in this game as he tries to lead his team to their first win.

New York Giants: Daniel Jones is one player to watch here. He is leading his team in both passing and offense and is trying to do it all on this offense. He needs to trust his surrounding players more instead of trying to do everything himself so look for him to play smarter here and hand the ball off more to Barkley to try and get a good run game going.

Notable Quotes

"When the score got out of hand, a lot of that was on the offense, right? You can almost put four of those touchdowns — two of them for sure, pick-6′s (on the offense). Everybody feels sick when you see that box score, but there were some positives." - Arthur Smith on how 2 bad drives derailed what was a close game for them against the Bucs in week 2.

"It's going to be a tough lesson. I'm not going to put this on Dexter." - Joe Judge on the costly penalty that resulted in the game winning field goal for Washington.
