Season Record

Braves: 87-53, 2nd place NL East
Giants: 67-73, 3rd place NL West

We skipped Game 1 of this series under the impression the weather would be weird and it would be hard to call.  The weather was weird,... it is San Francisco.  It also (Game 1) is yet to play, tonight, Monday)... This prediction is focused on Game 2 for Tuesday Night.

A National League matchup between the 2nd place NL East that may be in first place soon… or may never get there… and the 3rd place NL West team… That will definitely not finish the season any higher than this.  Last season the Atlanta Braves won the World Series!  It was pretty great.  The Braves played most of last season a lot like they are now.. Hiding in the weeds.  Then when the season closed in on the end the Braves found another gear and ran away with it.  They ended up beating the Dodgers… The Dodgers responded by signing the Braves best hitter in the offseason.  The Giants had a great season last year… 100+ wins, dominant and modeling the greatest teamwork in baseball I can remember… Then they did something that the Braves did not do… they lost to the Dodgers in the Postseason.  As of this season… it is all over.  The current Giants will need some rebuilding and some hope for the future… that is all they have left.

The Atlanta Braves have won 8 of their last 10 games.  A real win streak of 8 until it was broken by a two-game losing streak against Seattle.  P Spencer Strider had two wins, P Charlie Morton had two wins, P Kyle Wright had two wins… That is a good showing until the Seattle bump.  They went 1-2 against the Seattle Mariners, 2-0 against the Oakland A’s, 3-0 against the Miami Marlins, and 2-0 against the Colorado Rockies during that stretch.  They are top-ten in batting and in pitching.  Not the best but good enough on both sides to have a run.

The San Francisco Giants have won 5 of their last 10 games.  .500 will not get it done this time of year, but they are stuck.  Last season’s batting lineup has been decimated by players lost to free agency and injury… Last season’s pitching rotation has been decimated by players lost to free agency and injury.  They went 2-1 against the Chicago Cubs, 0-2 against the Milwaukee Brewers, 1-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and 2-0 against the Philadelphia Phillies.  It’s an up and down season… but the down keeps persisting.

Players to Watch

Braves: RHP Kyle Wright, 17-5, 3.23 ERA, 154 strikeouts in 158 innings pitched.  1.15 WHIP.  This 26 year old is having a great season with an almost great team.  He has a bright future.

Giants: RHP Jakob Junis, 4-5, 3.98 ERA, 80 strikeouts in 92 innings pitched.  1.18 WHIP.  Jakob is waiting for a breakout but it has been a long 33-40 as a starter.  It may never happen.  People call him “june bug” when they should be calling him “meat”

Giants: CF Lewis Brinson, 2B Wilmer Flores, DH JD Davis, 3B Evan Longoria, 1B David Villar, SS Thairo Estrada, C Joey Bart, LF Austin Dean, RF Luis Gonzalez

Manager

Braves: Brian “snitty” Snitker
Giants: Gabe “How bout these eyebrows” Kapler

Weather Forecast

Partly Cloudy 69*, Humidity 77%, Wind 17 mph.  That wind kicks off the bay and can make cloudy weather feel downright cold.  Also the San Francisco Bay is loaded with big ol’ Great White Sharks… If you see those guys in the kayaks going after a home run ball… remember they could be eaten.
