Arkansas State vs Oklahoma Prediction

The current betting odds have Oklahoma listed as a 35 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Oklahoma was terrible last season as they were expected to be a much better team under their new head coach but they failed to answer the call in multiple games as they went 6-7 overall, even losing in their bowl game, and they were terrible in their conference games too with a 3-6 record. They were a lot better in their home games as they did go 4-2 there but they have also made a lot of improvements to their team for this season and their defense will be a lot better than it was last season. Their offense will also take a big step this season as Venables is now in his 2nd season coaching the team and Arkansas State is coming off a season where they weren't great. Arkansas State plays in a much weaker conference in the Sun Belt but they were terrible last season going 3-9 overall and even struggled against their own conference opponents going 1-7 in those games. Now they have to take on a power 5 school in Oklahoma who plays in a much better Big 12 Conference and will be looking to come out really strong here after the terrible season they had last year. Arkansas State doesn't have a good defense either so they will struggle to keep out this improved Oklahoma offense while the improved Oklahoma defense also makes it really difficult for Arkansas State to score points. The best way to place a bet here is on Oklahoma to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

“Well we still haven’t named anybody. It’s trying to balance the reps out as we go. We need all 3 individuals (Shrout, Jaxon Dailey, Jaylen Raynor) to continue to grow and develop. In terms of the quarterback, we’ll continue to evaluate that. We’ll take this weekend and really compile things. I have some outside individuals that I trust in the coaching profession. It’s kinda evaluating their practices as we go as well.” - Butch Jones on the QB competition for the starting position.

“I’m kind of hard on the defense, and they deserve that. We haven’t been very good in a while. But guys are making improvements there. It’s incredibly important.” - Brent Venables on his team’s defense coming into the new college football season.
