A National League West matchup between two of the “also-rans”.  Last season the Arizona Diamondbacks were the trash of the NL West.  A middling team capable of losing games for long stretches… They are in the same bathwater this season. The Diamondbacks are firmly below average in scoring and pitching.  That is a recipe for failure.  Add to that the Diamondbacks play in the hottest heat and dustiest field… and woah boy… They don’t have much to write home about.  The San Francisco Giants last season was the absolute cream of the NL West… They finished with 107 wins in the regular season just above the Los Angeles Dodgers… Then in the playoffs they lost to the Dodgers in 7 games and that was the last quality ball this club played.  This season the Giants lost some faces to free agency and some others to the injury list… the result is a Giants team that so far has only managed a 4 game lead on the Diamondbacks and a single game lead on .500.  Bad baseball all around. This matchup has already played 1 game (a D-Backs win 4-3) with another game to play Tuesday night.  This prediction will focus on Game 3… as Game 3 will have the only obvious pitching matchup to produce an obvious result…. Now let’s see if we can’t screw this up?

The Arizona Diamondbacks have won only 4 of their last 10 games. They have a legit home run hitter in Christian Walker who has logged 21 on the season so far… the first baseman is solid at the plate and will make a fine acquisition for a winning team eventually.  The D-Backs are led in batting average by Josh Rojas.  Josh only has a .288 average which is fine… but not among the league leaders in batting average.  The offense is quiet in Phoenix.  They went 1-3 against the Colorado Rockies (and are still above the Rockies barely), 2-1 against THESE San Francisco Giants, and 1-2 against the Colorado Rockies again.  So basically they are going through a stretch of NL West opponents and stinking up the joint.

The San Francisco Giants want to lose.  You can see it in their play.  Last season this was a team that played together to make the sum of their parts vault to heights unimagined in heaven or on earth. This season they are the Walking Dead. With unreliable hitting and slightly below average pitching the Giants are set to simply not turn things around… They won’t all of a sudden get Chris Bassitt and Khris Bryant back… Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford have exchanged long stretches on the injury list.  They are cooked… they just need to be left in for a few more minutes to properly brown.  They have also won a low low 4 of the last 10 games.  The went 2-2 against the San Diego Padres, 1-2 against THESE Arizona Diamondbacks, and 0-3 against the Chicago White Sox during that stretch.  Lousy.
