Diamondbacks - Phillies preview and analysis

The Philadelphia Phillies needed a new voice. Clearly it worked, and they didn't need to resort to Nickleback like another team that fired its manager not too long ago. Instead, they fire Joe Girardi and the wins continue to pile up.

Six straight for the Phillies, who suddenly have some life now when it didn't look like it existed a couple of weeks ago. And after completing a sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies will look to keep things rolling with a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks starting on Friday at Philadelphia.

The Phillies completed their second straight three-game sweep on Thursday by making easy work of the Milwaukee Brewers. Philadelphia capped off the sweep with an 8-3 win off the heels of a 2-for-5 effort from Bryce Harper that included a home run.

Didi Gregorius went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Kyle Schwarber hit his 15th homer of the season.

"We just got to keep going," Harper said, "doing the things we're doing, playing the game the right way, not overlook anybody that we play and just take it one game at a time."

The Phillies got Corbin Burnes out of the game before the fifth inning in what was a performance that looked like the Phillies of what should've been.

"Being able to get Corbin out of there in the fifth inning at 100 or whatever pitches he threw, I thought we battled as best we could and got into their bullpen as best as we could," Harper said. "To be able to come here and sweep in their ballpark, that's huge for us."

The Phillies outscored the Brewers 21-5 in the three games and improved to 6-0 in June.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks were on the edge of despair not too long ago, but scored four times in the ninth and salvaged a split over the Cincinnati Reds. Josh Rojas drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single in the ninth.

"I went up there with a with the approach to stay on the heater and react to the slider," Rojas said. "He actually threw me a first-pitch slider, I got a good swing on and fouled it off. Once I did that, I felt pretty comfortable to stay on the heater and try to drive something. I got put in a really good situation."

Prediction

While it would be more fun to watch the D-backs win this one, I think the Phillies lucked into their schedule right now after the Girardi firing.  This schedule continues working and I like Philly to keep it going. Phillies win 8-4
