Game 1 went off Monday night in this series and the winner was the Dodgers ATS 5-3 (as predicted).  This review is for Game 4 of the series on Wednesday night!  Wait What?... That’s right Tuesday (today) is a jam packed double header.  Both Game 2 and Game 3 predictions are out and available among the game previews at BigAL.com… but you have to hurry because Game 1 will start SOON.  This prediction for Game 4 without knowing the results of Game 2 or 3.. That is a tricky situation is one or the other team suffers an injury to an important guy… or if one or the other team rips through the bullpen if one of the Doubleheader games goes extra innings.  However, the numbers and the pitching matchup should be clear enough to go for it!  Let’s check it all out and make some money.

Another National League West matchup between the 4th place team in the division and the 1st place team in the division and the league.  The Dodgers have been mopping up wins in the NFC West against the Padres, Giants, Diamondbacks, over the last month… with multiple series against each team… also lots and lots of wins.  The Dodgers hit the 100 win mark against the Giants (with 1 game yet to play, tonight).  With 18 games to play the win total for the Dodgers could become the thing of legend.  116 wins is the MLB all-time record!  The Dodgers would have to win 16 of the next 18 to get there and only lose 1 of the last 18 games to break the record.  That may not happen at all… it’s way to slim a margin… but it still COULD happen!  The Diamondbacks on the other hand are simply having another ho-hum season… They find themselves firmly lodged in the dustbin of 2022.  They will certainly experiment with minor league call-ups to see if they have any jewels in the dirt of Phoenix… that could also lead to a final stretch of losing BIG.  

The DiamondBacks have won only 3 of their last 10 games.  Also they may have the smallest injury list in all of the MLB… They simply do not have a good or ready roster.  This is a team that at nearly full strength (almost no one else can say that) simply do not hit the ball well and they do not pitch well.  They are mired in mediocrity and will need to get really aggressive in free agency to make any improvements.  Do they have the money?... Who knows?  The good thing for the D-Backs is that across the street the NBA’s Phoenix Suns are mired in controversy with a chump owner who has managed to offend all his players and his entire league… and with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals spending a boatload of money on a quarterback that may have no one to throw the ball to… he also might be too small.  The time is ripe for the D-Backs to make improvements and steal the hearts and minds of the sports fans in the city.  Trade, sign, and build… That should be the mantra.  They went 1-2 against the San Diego Padres, 1-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers (at home), 1-2 against the Colorado Rockies (at home), and 0-1 against the San Diego Padres during that stretch.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 8 of their last 10 games.  They have been a winning machine this season.  The #1 batting team AND the #1 pitching team would look silly if they weren’t a winning machine.  The Dodgers tend to field a starting lineup with 4-5 All-Stars and 3-4 future Hall of Famers if they keep the numbers up.  They have a 1-2-3 of Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, and Freddie Freeman… Those guys are followed by 4 legitimate home run threats.  It is a dizzying array of offense that has lead to 5.42 runs per game… and the largest win margin in the league.  The Dodgers injury list alone… if it were entirely healthy tomorrow (even with Trevor Bauer still ejected for life)... could make a pitching rotation by themselves good enough for top-five in the league.  Some of those guys will return to the Dodgers for the postseason. They have gone 2-0 against the San Francisco Giants, 2-1 against the Arizona D-Backs, 2-1 against the San Diego Padres, and 2-0 against the San Francisco Giants during that stretch.

Once again the obvious bet is the Dodgers ATS.  All four matchups in the series are the same prediction.  Bet on the Dodgers ATS.  The Dodgers are the #1 hitting team and the #1 pitching team in all of baseball.  When the D-Backs have to go against the Dodgers while on the road while playing 4 games in 3 days… They just don’t have enough pitching or run support to realistically win any of these games.  The Dodgers CAN rest a guy.  The Dodgers can rely on the bullpen.  The D-Backs have no such luxury.

D-Backs: LHP Madison Bumgarner, 6-15, 5.01 ERA, 107 strikeouts in 152 innings pitched.  1.48 WHIP.  Bumgarner’s numbers are falling down a well this season.  This guy could use a long rest and a change of scenery if he wants to remain an MLB starter.  At 33 he should have gas still in the tank… but when you compare this season to his career you see lots of trouble.  

Dodgers: RHP Dustin May, 2-2, 3.46 ERA, 25 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched. 1.00 WHIP.  This 25 year old has a big arm and is working hard to see if he can take a postseason starter spot… Not likely with Kershaw, Gonsolin, Anderson, Urias… and possibly Buehler all being available.  But his time is surely coming.
