Cardinals vs Saints Prediction

The Arizona Cardinals will be meeting with the New Orleans Saints for one last game on this preseason schedule before the real NFL schedule kicks off. The Cardinals are 1-1 in this NFL preseason after winning their first game 19-16 against the Dallas Cowboys, but are coming off of a loss against the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10 in their last one. They are facing a 1-1 Saints team that has done the opposite to get there losing their first preseason game 17-14 to the Baltimore Ravens but winning their last one against the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-21.

The Arizona Cardinals are coming off of a loss in their last game where they only put up 10 points. They have scored a total of 29 points through their 2 games and have allowed a total of 33 points. Colt McCoy had a decent game completing 13/18 passes for 113 yards, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. Chris Streveler was also decent, only throwing 6 passes but completing 5 of them for 74 yards and 1 touchdown. Their running game was not good in that one as their rushing yards were led by their quarterback McCoy with 20 yards rushing on 3 carries. None of their wide receivers had a breakout game but they were able to complete some big plays down field in that one. The Cardinals had 4 different receivers average more than 10 yards per catch. Kyler Murray will not be playing at all in this one along with a few other starters, which is odd as the regular season is right around the corner. This team is clearly more focused on resting their players and keeping anyone who is a starter on the team healthy. That will be good for NFL week 1 but does not help them much in this game if they even care about winning it.

The New Orleans Saints are coming off of a win in their last game where they put up 23 points and allowed 21. They have scored a total of 37 points and allowed 38 points through their first 2 games. Both quarterbacks played great for the Saints in their last game. Taysom Hill completed 11/20 passes for 138 yards and 1 touchdown while Jameis Winston completed 9/10 passes for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. Their running game was not good though as none of their backs even hit the 25 rushing yard mark in that one. Marquez Callaway had a great game on the receiving end. He caught 5 passes for 104 yards and 2 TDs. Lil'Jordan Humphrey also played well as he caught 4 passes for 74 yards and 1 touchdown. They also had 5 different receivers average over 10 yards per catch in that one. The Saints should see some of their starters get a little action in this game to prepare for the NFL season to begin. Even if not, the Saints looked good in that last game and clearly have 2 solid quarterbacks that are performing well.

The Saints have more talent on their side than the Cardinals do but, even without starters on the field the Saints are better. The Cardinals have already announced that they will not be playing Kyler Murray and a few other starters so that severely weakens their lineup. The Saints have said that they want to announce their starting quarterback for the regular season before this game but, anything can still happen here and as long as there is still somewhat of a battle for the starting job, the Saints will come to play. They are in the better position to win this game and will likely cover the spread as their young weapons look to show off their talent in one last game to try to earn some game time in the real season.

NFL Betting Trends

Arizona Cardinals: 24-20 ATS as a road underdog of 7 points or less.
New Orleans Saints: 6-1 ATS after allowing 300+ passing yards in their previous game.

Key Injuries

Arizona Cardinals:  Deandre Hopkins (WR) Questionable for week 1 with an undisclosed injury.
New Orleans Saints:  Wil Lutz (K) Out for week 1 with an abdomen injury, expected to return in week 5.

Players to Watch

Arizona Cardinals: Tay Gowan is one player to watch in this game for the Cardinals. When Patrick Peterson left during the offseason it left a big hole at cornerback that Gowan is looking to fill. In his last game he played well recording 5 tackles and 1 assist as he led this team on the defense. There are definitely some open spots at cornerback on this team so watch for Gowan to make some big plays in this game to try and fill the void that Peterson left.

New Orleans Saints: Jameis Winston is one player to watch for the Saints as he has looked good through 2 preseason games so far. Winston is looking to win that starting job at quarterback for week 1 so watch for him to keep making big plays in this one as he tries to showcase his talent and skill proving he can still be a starter in this league.

"I haven't started a football game in so long, man. So, I was so excited just to get an opportunity to start and lead the pack." - Jameis Winston on his feelings of getting to be a starter again even in just a preseason game.
