Season Record

Appalachian State:  7-1 conf, 10-2 overall (Sun Belt)
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns: 8-0 conf, 11-1 overall (Sun Belt)

As hotly contested matchups in the Sun Belt conferences go… This is the biggest.  App State was great in Group A this season… Louisiana-Lafayette ran over Group B.

The Cajuns are a single loss away from a perfect season and that loss was to the Texas Longhorns in the first game of the season… The Cajuns have been on an 11 game win streak since!!  App State isn’t the underdogs but should be… Their last loss was to the Ragin Cajuns on October 12th 41-13.  Unless App State has gotten drastically better since, the Cajuns should cruise past them. App State’s other loss this season came from Miami… that’s right the U.

The spread of this game comes from the let down the Cajuns should get after their coach bailed for a bigger contract at a bigger program… but they won’t be flying blind… They are still the same team capable of touchdowns from quarterback Levi Lewis all day long… Did the coach throw those passes?

Appalachian State vs Louisiana-Lafayette Preview and Analysis

RECENT FORM

App State is 10-2 on the season, but 8-4 ATS. They have logged 5 Overs and 7 Unders.  They are 3-2 in road games.  Which means they are a perfect 6-0 at home, but this will be a road game… so.. Ya know.  The total points are set at 53 for this contest with App State having gone Under on 3 of their last 4 games.  Win or lose Appalachian State hasn’t had a competitive fourth quarter since September when they beat Marshall 31-30, every other game has been a blowout either way.

UL Lafayette is 11-1 on the season, but 5-7 ATS.  They have logged 3 Overs and 9 Unders.  They are a perfect 6-0 in home games which will count since this is a home game.  In week four the Cajuns beat the Georgia State Panthers 28-20 in a win, but a loss ATS… then again they beat South Alabama the next week but lost ATS…. That started a deluge where they won games, but lost ATS 3 more times!!  That is exactly why the spread is small against a team the Cajuns blew out in week 7.

OFFENSIVE ANALYSIS

App State is ranked 31st in the FBS on offense.  They average 439.9 ypg and have scored 48 TDs on the season.  The stats breakdown further to 51st in passing offense and 37th in rushing offense.  They are a well balanced team that favors the run a bit.

Louisiana's offense is ranked 63rd in the FBS.  They average 406.6 ypg and have scored 49 TDs on the season.  They also lean toward the run, ranking 34th in the FBS in rushing offense with 192.2 ypg.

DEFENSIVE ANALYSIS

Appalachian State's defense is ranked 15th in the FBS.  They only allow 319.4 yards per game and only 26 TDs so far.

The Louisiana defense is ranked 41st in the FBS.  They give up 349.7 yards per game and have allowed 28 TDs so far.  They won’t have to focus on the sack against App State because it will be a smash mouth run offense going both ways.

UL Lafayette: Billy Napier.  Coach Napier accepted the job as the New Head Coach of the Florida Gators… just a few days ago.  What this means for the sidelines of the Ragin Cajuns is still unclear.
