Mountaineers vs Ragin’ Cajuns Preview and Analysis.

RECENT FORM
App State opened the season with a win over East Carolina 33-19.  Game two brought a battle with big bad Miami FL… it was wildly close but App State lost 25-23, a score that covered the spread to many bettors' delight.  Game 3 was an easy win over Elon 44-10.  Game 4 was a super tight win against Marshall 31-30.  Game 5 was another easy win over Georgia State 45-16.  At 4-1 on the season we know that Appalachian State is reliable.  They beat underdogs soundly and play tough against even competition.  They are a field goal short of being 5-0.

The UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns opened their season with a loss against the big program, conference-jumping Texas Longhorns 38-18. Game 2 was a 27-24 victory over Nicholls State that began a run of wins yet to be broken.  Game 3 was a win over the Ohio Bobcats 49-14.  Game 4 was a win over Georgia Southern 28-20.  Game 5 a win over South Alabama 20-18.  The Cajuns are 4-1.  Louisiana’s games have had one blow-out win (OHIO) and otherwise all the wins have been close games.

Offensive Analysis

Appalachian State is ranked 17th in the FBS on offense.  They have scored 21 touchdowns on 481.4 yards per game.

La Lafayette is ranked 70th on offense in the FBS. They have scored 18 touchdowns on 395 yards per game.

Defensive Analysis

App State is ranked 60th on defense in the FBS giving up 9 touchdowns on the season and 365 yards per game.  They played big in their 1 loss.  No matter how out of it Miami is, they are still a major program and the Mountaineers held them to 25 points while scoring 23 of their own.  These guys are strong.  You don’t want any part of D’Marco Jackson.

Louisiana Lafayette is ranked 87th on defense in the FBS giving up 16 touchdowns on 411 yards per game.  They are doing fine compared to the competition they have played.  Appalachian State will be able to pass over this coverage all day though.
