Ducks - Stars preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Ducks: won 2-1 (OT) vs. Coyotes
Stars: lost 3-2 (OT) vs. Devils

The Anaheim Ducks will be playing the Dallas Stars on Monday, February 6 in Dallas, Texas.

The Anaheim Ducks won against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday, January 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California with a score of 2-1 in overtime. The Anaheim Ducks currently rank 8th in the Pacific Division.

Trevor Zegras scored with 1:26 left in overtime. John Klingberg stole the puck from Matias Maccelli in the Coyotes' zone, cut toward the net and passed back to Zegras, who scored from the slot.

The goal came shortly after John Gibson made a highlight-reel save on Jakob Chychrun with 3:15 remaining. Clayton Keller skated in on a 2-on-1 and passed to Chychrun, who cut back across the grain and had his backhand denied by the glove of Gibson, who was sprawled out on the ice.

"'Gibby's' save was ridiculous," Zegras said.

Max Jones scored, Klingberg had two assists, and Gibson made 33 saves for the Ducks (16-29-5), who have won three in a row for the first time this season.

"We're rolling. It feels good," Zegras said. "Everybody loves to win no matter where you are in the standings or how the season's going. Winning is the best feeling, and that's why we all play."

Anaheim also defeated Arizona 5-2 on Tuesday and the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 on Thursday.

"That game against Colorado was a big win," Jones said. "We're finding a little groove right now. We've just got to keep on moving forward with it. With the (All-Star) break here and coming back out of it, it's something we have to remind ourselves of once we get back from the break. Just keep playing the same way."

After the Coyotes made the first goal of the game, Jones tied it 1-1 at 12:32 of the second period. Klingberg's initial shot was blocked by the stick of Lawson Crouse, but the puck caromed to Jones, who spun and scored short side from the right circle.

"When I get my heart rate going and I get into the game, I find it a lot easier to just play hockey," Jones said. "You're not thinking as much, you're not worried about making mistakes."

Jones said playing on the same line with Frank Vatrano and Mason McTavish has helped bring out the best in his game.

"Frankie is such a hard-working guy, too, so it's really easy to be on the forecheck with him," Jones said. "Every time I was in on the puck today, [McTavish] was right next to me, so it makes the game really easy when you're just hounding the puck and don't give the 'D' any time."

The Anaheim Ducks have won four of their last 10 games.

The Dallas Stars lost against the New Jersey Devils on Friday, January 27 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas with a score of 3-2 in overtime. The Dallas Stars currently rank 1st in the Central Division.

Roope Hintz and Ty Dellandrea scored, and Oettinger made 26 saves for the Stars (28-13-10), who played their last game before their bye week.

Dallas has lost each of its past three games in overtime by a 3-2 score. It's the first time this season the Stars have lost three straight in any fashion.

"We've got some good hockey minds in this room. We'll talk to the coaching staff and we'll come up with a plan [for overtime]," Dallas captain Jamie Benn said. "Finding ways to get points is great, but after the break we need to find a way to get these wins in overtime because these points are going to be big."

The Stars took a 1-0 lead at 10:50 of the first period when Dellandrea was credited with a goal after his shot toward the slot bounced in off Devils forward Erik Haula.

Hintz made it 2-0 at 16:44 when he scored five seconds into a 5-on-3 power play on a shot from the top of the left circle. It was his 20th goal of the season and 100th in the NHL.

The Dallas Stars have won four of their last 10 games.

Prediction

The Stars have somehow went to overtime in three straight games, losing 3-2 in all of them. If the Ducks take them to OT and win 3-2, there might be a little bit of a problem. Stars 4, Ducks 2
