Oklahoma Sooners Analysis

Oklahoma is coming into this game with a 5-0 record overall and they are 1-0 in their road games this season where they will be in this game. This will be their 3rd conference matchup of the year and they are already off to a great start with a 2-0 record in their conference games this season. Their 5 wins came against the Tulane Green Wave, the Western Carolina Catamounts, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the West Virginia Mountaineers, and against KSU in their last game. Spencer Rattler played well in that game as he completed 22/25 passes for 243 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Kennedy Brooks led the team in rushing with 91 yards and 1 touchdown on 15 carries but he was basically their entire ground game in that one. Marvin Mims led the team in receiving with 71 yards on 4 receptions in what was a very quiet day for the receiving corps as no one player stood out in that game. Patrick Fields led the defense with 9 solo tackles in that game while both Justin Broiles and Brian Asamoah II played well too with 6 solo tackles each. Isaiah Thomas recorded the only sack in that game for the defense and no one was able to come away with an interception. They have scored 192 points in their first 5 games and they have allowed their opponents to score 95 points against them. Their offense is averaging 434.6 YPG while their defense is allowing 325 YPG.

Texas Longhorns Analysis

Texas is coming into this college football game with a 4-1 record overall and they are 3-0 in their home games this season where they will be in this game. This will be their 3rd conference matchup on their schedule and they are also off to a great start with a 2-0 record in their conference games this season. They started their season off with a win against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns but then followed that up with a loss on the road to the Arkansas Razorbacks. They have corrected themselves since then, winning their last 3 games against the Rice Owls, the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and against TCU in their last game. Casey Thompson was the starting quarterback in their last game and he struggled a bit in that one as he completed 12/22 passes for 142 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Bijan Robinson had a massive day in the run game as he led the team with 216 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns himself on 35 carries. He was basically their entire ground game and really carried the team in that one. Jordan Whittington led the receivers with 79 yards and 1 TD on 3 receptions but other than him, there was not much going on for the receiving corps. DeMarvion Overshown led the defense with 8 solo tackles and 2 assisted ones while Anthony Cook was right behind him with 6 solo tackles, 2 assisted ones and 1 sack. That was the only sack in that game recorded by their defense and no one was able to come up with an interception in that one. They have scored 219 points in their first 5 games and they have allowed 120 points against them. Their offense is averaging 473 YPG while their defense is allowing 396.8 YPG.

Oklahoma vs Texas Prediction

Texas has looked much better in their last few games since losing to Arkansas back in week 2. They ran into a good defense in that game but their offense has been running well all year. They still managed to score 21 points on Arkansas and have scored over 30 points in each of their other 4 games. Oklahoma has been struggling in their games all year and have really been struggling to score points on offense. They have scored over 30 points in just 1 of their last 3 games. They have also had a lot of close games this season winning their last 3 all by less than a touchdown and against competition that should be way beneath them. This is the Red River Rivalry and Texas will come to play hard for the win as they are at home here. Oklahoma has not looked good in any game this year while Texas has been rolling on offense recently. The best bet to place in this game is one Texas to cover the spread and for them to win on the moneyline in a straight up upset.

Players to Watch

Oklahoma Sooners: Spencer Rattler is one player to watch here. He has not played the best at times this season and this is a very important conference game for them as it could shift the balance of the Big 12. He will need to step up and make the plays in this game so look for him to play the best he can in this game.

Texas Longhorns: Bijan Robinson is one player to watch in this game. He leads his team in rushing yards and in touchdowns scored this season. He is coming off of a big day where he rushed for over 200 yards in that game. He will be a big part in controlling the ground game in this one so look for him to get a lot of touches here as they try to wear down the Oklahoma defense.

Notable Quotes

"You have to find ways to win. We've won in several different ways early in the season. I think that bodes well because this team has some grit in them." - Lincoln Riley on his team winning some very close games this year.

"No. 5 kind of epitomized our football team, the grit. He was exhausted. Thirty-five carries later, the last one was the most important one to get one more first down to seal the win. ... He's earned our trust." - Steve Sarkisian on Bijan Robinson’s performance in their last game.
