Week 5 of the NFL season is here and there's already so much intrigue around the league. Division races are surprisingly tight in some parts, some teams still have a chance to better their season, and some teams are surprising everyone with their level of play. Cooper Rush for MVP, anybody? But in the betting world, it was a strong week for Tom Stryker going 5-0-1 (+$5,000 net). As we progress through the one-quarter mark in the NFL season, it's a subtle reminder that anything can happen on any given time. Raiders - Chiefs preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Raiders: won 32-23 vs. Broncos
Chiefs: won 41-31 at Buccaneers

Have you ever gone back recently to find out how bad the average score is between the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs over the last few years? If you haven’t, prepare yourselves, because it’s bad.

The Chiefs, by way of average, have outscored the Raiders 39-15 in the last four years. If you take out the 40 spot they scored in Kansas City during the COVID year, it would be much worse for the Raiders. Now that the two teams are meeting on Monday Night Football in a battle between the best and worst teams of the AFC West with both coming off big wins a week ago.

The Raiders finally got in the win column with a 32-23 win over the Denver Broncos at home to get to 1-3. The first three weeks have been a offensive balanced nightmare for the Josh McDaniels-coached Raiders, but they finally got back to that in Week 4 with Josh Jacobs running for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Derek Carr threw just 188 yards and no touchdowns, but Davante Adams had his second 100-yard game of the year with 101 yards on nine receptions.

"He said it to the offense and defense: You should want the burden to finish the game, not hoping that someone else does their thing or they they fix the problem," Carr said. "Whatever the game asked for, it's our turn to do our job."

Jacobs had been doing well in terms of a YPC standpoint, but he wasn’t getting enough touches and wasn’t getting the leg-work that it takes for a three-down back to have. They gave him the ball 28 times en route to his ninth career game with at least two rushing touchdowns.

"We kind of had the mindset we wanted this to be a physical game and leaned on Josh and the running game a little bit more than what we have and really established that," McDaniels said. "Our goal was to try to make it that kind of game and make it a fourth-quarter game."

But if there was a time for Adams to have a big game, it’s on Monday night. Adams has three consecutive games of at least 115 receiving yards on Monday Night Football, dating back to his days with the Green Bay Packers. He also has five straight primetime games of that mark. Seeing how Kansas City’s defense struggled to contain Mike Evans last week, it might be time for Adams to feast.

But the Chiefs still found a way to move to 3-1 last week with a 41-31 win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa, which proved to be a much needed act of revenge for Patrick Mahomes via the Super Bowl. Mahomes threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns in the win, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran for 92 yards and had two total touchdowns.

"When I came into the stadium I realized that I hadn't been here and the bad taste I had last time came into effect," Mahomes said of the Super Bowl two years ago. "But it's still not a playoff game. It's a regular-season game, which is important. That Super Bowl will always leave a bad taste for me."

Prediction

But for the discussion that the Chiefs may not have an answer defensively, it’s on the Las Vegas pass rush to make some plays when needed. The Raiders have five sacks this year as a team, with four belonging to Maxx Crosby. That has to change if the Raiders want any chance to win this game. This should be a comfortable win for Kansas City. Chiefs by 14
