Flames - Stars preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Flames: won 4-1 at Blues on Thursday
Stars: lost 2-1 (OT) at Rangers on Thursday

The Calgary Flames will be playing the Dallas Stars on Saturday, January 14 in Dallas, Texas.

The Calgary Flames won against The St. Louis Blues last Thursday, January 12 in St.Louis with a score of 4-1.The Calgary Flames rank 4th in the Pacific Division. Walker Duehr made his first career NHL goal Thursday night, breaking a scoreless tie in the second period. Duehr, born in Sioux Falls, became the first South Dakota-born player to score in the NHL.

“This shows that anybody who puts their head down and goes to work can achieve pretty great things,” Duehr said.

Dillon Dube scored twice in the third period one of which broke the 1-all tie, while Blake Coleman pushed the lead to 3-1. Dan Vladar made 25 saves, helping the Flames to their 4-1 win over the Blues.

The Calgary Flames have won half of their last 10 games.

The Dallas Stars lost against the New York Rangers last Thursday, January 12 in New York with a score of 2-1. The Dallas Stars are ranked 1st in the Central Division. Tyler Seguin drew a penalty that led to him scoring a power-play goal, and Jake Oettinger made 29 saves for the Stars. Rangers player K’Andre Miller tied the game with one second left in the third period, pushing the game into overtime. Adam Fox scored in overtime for a Rangers win against the Stars.

"It's pretty tough," Oettinger said. "It's hard. It [stinks]. I'll probably be thinking about that for a while."

The Dallas Stars have won six of their last 10 games. Oettinger was one second away from getting his third shutout of the season and fifth of his NHL career.

"We were that close, you know," he said. "You're less than a second away and it ends like that. It's brutal."

"Our execution, our attention to detail was where it needs to be playing against a good team on the road," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. "The other night against the Islanders I didn't think it was for 60 minutes and Jake had to bail us out. Tonight, I thought we gave Jake a much better chance to win the game because our details and execution were a lot better."

Though their previous game resulted in a loss, it was not without a fight, as proven in their prior games, they have what it takes to triumph against their opposing teams. In the grand scheme of things, it is expected that a Dallas Stars win is in the books on home ice. They’re rightfully ranked higher than the Calgary Flames who have a bit more work cut out for them in order to knock the Stars down a couple notches.

Prediction

The Stars have cooled off a bit, but not to the point where they should have any struggles against a middle-of-the-pack Calgary team. Jason Robertson is still capable of doing Jason Robertson things and I would expect a bounceback effort from Jake Oettinger to end this slide of losing three of five. Stars 5, Flames 3
