Ducks - Blackhawks preview, prediction and analysis
Recent results
Ducks: won 2-1 (OT) vs. Coyotes
Blackhawks: lost 7-3 at Oilers
The Anaheim Ducks will be playing the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, February 7 in Anaheim, California.
The Anaheim Ducks won against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday, January 28 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California with a score of 2-1 on overtime. The Anaheim Ducks currently rank 8th in the Pacific Division.
Trevor Zegras scored with 1:26 left in overtime. John Klingberg stole the puck from Matias Maccelli in the Coyotes' zone, cut toward the net and passed back to Zegras, who scored from the slot.
The goal came shortly after John Gibson made a highlight-reel save on Jakob Chychrun with 3:15 remaining. Clayton Keller skated in on a 2-on-1 and passed to Chychrun, who cut back across the grain and had his backhand denied by the glove of Gibson, who was sprawled out on the ice.
"'Gibby's' save was ridiculous," Zegras said.
Max Jones scored, Klingberg had two assists, and Gibson made 33 saves for the Ducks (16-29-5), who have won three in a row for the first time this season.
"We're rolling. It feels good," Zegras said. "Everybody loves to win no matter where you are in the standings or how the season's going. Winning is the best feeling, and that's why we all play."
Anaheim also defeated Arizona 5-2 on Tuesday and the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 on Thursday.
"That game against Colorado was a big win," Jones said. "We're finding a little groove right now. We've just got to keep on moving forward with it. With the (All-Star) break here and coming back out of it, it's something we have to remind ourselves of once we get back from the break. Just keep playing the same way."
The Anaheim Ducks have won four of their last 10 games as of January 28. The Ducks will be playing the Dallas Stars on February 6.
The Chicago Blackhawks lost against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, January 28 at Rogers Place in Edmonton with a score of 7-3. The Chicago Blackhawks currently rank 8th in the Central Division.
Taylor Raddysh had a goal and an assist, Patrick Kane had two assists, and Petr Mrazek made 36 saves for the Blackhawks (15-29-4), who have lost three of four.
"I thought we started the game well," Raddysh said. "In the first period we were right there with them, then in the second we got off to a slow start and they got four goals and we fell behind. It was a bit of a trickle down situation, and we just have to try and bounce back when we get into situations like that."
Jason Dickinson tied it 1-1 at 5:25 of the second period on a shot from the slot moments after McDavid hit the post at the other end. The Oilers gained a 5-1 lead before the Blackhawks scored again.
"It seems, especially this year, we pre-scout them and we know what they're going to do and they still seem to be able to do it," Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said. "They're really good at it. Unfortunately, if we would have been able to get one of those penalty kills, those two goals just got us off our game plan and got us spread out, whereas in the last two games we were well-connected.
"In the second period we started to spread out, and they just feast on that when you don't play your game plan."
Jonathan Toews cut it to 5-2 at 8:29 of the third period on the power play, tipping in a centering pass from Kane.
"We had a great start, and maybe we stopped skating a little bit or as much as we were in the first period," Toews said. "They made some nice plays, too, but it would have been nice to control it a little bit more in the second. It was kind of a make-or-break period."
The Chicago Blackhawks have won six of their last 10 games.
