Brooklyn Nets +2.5 (-110)
- Brooklyn started 1-5 and has battled obvious distractions this season but the Nets are starting to look like a quality team on a current 6-4 run in the past 10 games even with eight of those 10 games on the road. The Nets lost last night in Philadelphia but have recent wins over the Clippers, Blazers, and Grizzlies. Toronto has been off since Saturday which is not always the advantage that is expected. The break came after a road-heavy run with four of the previous five on the road and with an overtime loss on Saturday ahead of a heavyweight home stand. Brooklyn has played a top 10 schedule in contrast to Toronto with the Nets facing eight games vs. the league’s top 10 compared to four games for the Raptors. The Raptors are slightly better in the efficiency rankings on both sides of the ball but if you take out the first two weeks the numbers get much closer. These teams split last season and Brooklyn won the early season meeting in October 109-105 with the Nets -2.5 at home. The Nets shot worse in the first meeting but still won in a game where rebounding and turnover results were near-even. The Nets emptied their bench last night with 14 players entering the game as they couldn’t compete with 50 percent 3-point shooting from the 76ers. Brooklyn made only nine free throws yesterday and five of six home wins for the Raptors have been by 10 or fewer points for mostly close results. Toronto is likely to be short-handed tonight with Pascal Siakam and Otto Porter out and Scottie Barnes possibly shelved as well.
