Analysis
Germany is coming into this match not playing in great form in their recent matches but they have not been losing a lot of matches either and this team has come a long way since the last major competition they were in. They did not go very far in the last Euro Cup but in the time since then they have really fixed up their defense as they have been allowing less goals in their matches. They also have 2 solid goalkeepers who will keep the ball out of their net here no matter who plays, but their real power comes from their attack. Germany has had a very strong attack for a long time as they have very good attacking players but in the past, their attack has always needed to bail out their bad defense by scoring lots of goals in their matches. The Germany defense is a lot better now, it still is vulnerable to allowing some goals but they will be able to keep a clean sheet in this match. They are going up against a Japan side that has a very good defense but their team lacks a lot of talent overall and they do not have a very strong attack either. They have been able to score on teams with weaker defense but they will have trouble getting through the Germany defense, and even if they do find the net in this match, they will not be able to score as many goals as Germany can to keep up in this match. Germany comes into this match as the 2nd favorite to win this group but that is very disrespectful to them as they are by far the best team in this group. They will be looking to make a statement in this opening match and they usually score a lot of goals in their matches where they are not holding back. Japan does not have the attack to keep up with Germany here and that will be the difference in this match. Germany will win this match by 2 or more goals, take Germany -1 here.
