Analysis
The Minnesota Lynx have been scratching and clawing their way from the cellar, and into the playoff race. They started the season 0-4, they've won seven of their last 12, and they're now one-half game out of the eighth spot in the WNBA standings. To their credit, they have a game in-hand on the eighth-place Atlanta Dream. With the Phoenix Mercury now missing Diana Taurasi, defending this team becomes much easier. I mean, Skylar Diggins-Smith is still a threat, as she's been the best player on the team from start to now, 33 games in. Phoenix is in seventh place, one game in front of Minnesota, and half-game in front of idle Atlanta, which lost in Las Vegas last night. Both teams know the road to getting closer to securing a playoff spot is behind a stringent defense. The Lynx have to clamp down on the home team that is missing the player largely considered the GOAT, while the Mercury need to slow the tempo by utilizing the entire shot clock and keeping the ball out of Minnesota's hands. Keep an eye on the Mercury using Sam Thomas a bit more, as she's a defensive specialist coach Vanessa Nygaard will turn to with Taurasi on the shelf. The Lynx have held teams to just 80.5 points per game during a recent 3-1 streak, while the Mercury have stayed under in four straight. We've seen 10 of the last 14 meetings stay low, while 12 of the last 15 in Phoenix have stayed south of the total. Play this one UNDER tonight.
