- Analysis
- The Arizona Diamondbacks outlasted the Pittsburgh Pirates last night, and have now won seven of their last eight at home. No reason to ignore a team playing well at home against one of the worst teams in baseball.
It's scary to think the Snakes are just 10 games off the wild-card pace, but when you look at the fact they still have 53 games left this season - 32.7% of their campaign - you can see they have plenty to play for.
Arizona, which is now a PERFECT 6-0 at home against the Bucs, have dominated this series no matter they play, having won 21 of the last 27.
I don't mind backing veteran Madison Bumgarner, who is 4-2 in his last seven home starts, to go along with a 3.38 ERA. Mad Bum hasn't done anything to stand out with personal numbers, but he's been durable enough for Arizona to win four of his last six starts.
Pittsburgh has generally struggled after a loss this season, and is currently mired in a 4-11 skid after losing. In those 15 games, the Pirates have been outscored 66-49 while hitting just .214 and averaging 3.2 runs per game.
Not a good sign for Pirates starter Mitch Keller, who will need all the run support he can get considering how bad he's been. The right-hander is 3-8 with a 4.21 ERA in 21 appearances this season, including a 3-4 showing and 4.12 ERA in 11 road appearances.
The Pirates have lost Keller's last four starts and 14 of his 19 starts this season.
Play Arizona.
