New York Yankees vs St. Louis Cardinals Over 8.5 (-110)
- Dakota Hudson has been one of the least impressive regular starters on a NL contender with a 4.10 ERA and a CSW% of just 22.4 percent. Hudson has allowed at least four runs in four of his last eight starts and his season xFIP is 4.89. After mostly pitching in favorable NL Central matchups, he now draws a powerful Yankees lineup that has a .771 team OPS vs. right-handers and an .818 team OPS in the past two weeks. St. Louis can keep pace however as the Cardinals own an .831 team OPS in the past two weeks. The Cardinals are one of MLB’s best hitting teams vs. left-handers on the season and over the past 10 games St. Louis is hitting .360 with 6.9 runs per nine vs. southpaws. Nestor Cortes has had a breakthrough season, but he has been an overachiever with an over 86 percent strand rate. His 3.71 xFIP is more realistic than his 2.53 ERA and Cortes has been much less effective on the road. Left-handed batters have had a very tough time vs. Cortes but right-handers have posted decent results and St. Louis projects to have eight right-handers in tonight’s lineup. New York pitching has allowed five or more runs in four of the past six games while the St. Louis bullpen has been a recent problem spot including a 4.67 ERA in the past 10 games. These are two of the best offensive teams in MLB facing off vs. overachieving starters and overworked bullpens as the scoring should be significant in balmy conditions in St. Louis Friday night with a solid wind going out to left-field.
