Analysis
Our 20* MLB Saturday Night Vegas Jackpot is with San Francisco with the money line versus the New York Mets at 9:45 pm et. The San Francisco Giants seek to recover from getting swept at home against San Diego over the weekend. The Giants are on a four-game losing streak after their 10-1 loss to the Padres yesterday. San Francisco still has a 22-18 record, five games behind Los Angeles in the National League West. They have won four of their last five games after losing three in a row to a division opponent. The Giants were priced as a -135 money line favorite by the oddsmakers yesterday, and they have won eleven of their last fifteen games after getting upset by an NL West opponent in their last game. They have won seven of their last nine games after allowing 10 or more runs. They host a Mets team that is in first place in the NL East, yet they caught a break with David Peterson pitching for New York tonight. The left-hander had a 2-6 record with a 5.54 era and a 1.40 whip in 15 starts last season. His era in 35 innings on the road last year was 7.97. He has a 1-0 record with a 1.89 era and 1.11 whip this year in four games and three starts in 19 innings. This is just his second start on the road this year. His good initial numbers are propped up by an 81.6% strand rate of the runners he has left base which is unsustainable. His strikeout rate of 21.1% this season is lower than his 24.0% last year. This is his first start since May 3rd. The Mets have won just one time in their last five games when Peterson is their starting pitcher and the oddsmakers install them as a money line underdog priced from +125 to +175. The Giants have won four of their last five games against left-handed starting pitchers. New York has won four of their last five games after a 2-0 win at Colorado yesterday. Yet the Mets have won just four times in their last fourteen games after a win, and they have won only once in their last five games after scoring two runs or less in their last game. New York continues their six-game road trip with this three-game series. They have won just seven times in their last twenty-six games on the road when the oddsmakers installed the over/under at 7 or 7.5. Alex Cobb pitches for the Giants. His 3-1 record looks good yet his 5.61 era and a 1.52 whip do not initially inspire confidence. Those numbers are inflated from a rough start last time out in Colorado where he allowed seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings at Coors Field. In four starts at home, Cobb has a 3.38 era and a 1.38 whip this season. The Giants signed him in the offseason after he posted a 2.63 era in the second half of the season for the Angels. In his two previous starts, he allowed only three runs in 10 1/3 innings while striking out 35.9% of the batters he faced. Cobb’s teams have won eleven of their last seventeen games when he is pitching at home. Play San Francisco with the money line. Good luck - Team Del Genio.
