Analysis
Colorado was shutout at home yesterday to end a run of offensive success but the past nine games have all been at home. On the season the Rockies have excellent numbers vs. left-handers but have been less successful vs. right-handers, particularly on the road where the Rockies are batting .173 with fewer than 2.0 runs per nine. Pittsburgh allowed 18 runs yesterday but an ‘under’ case is favorable looking at the offense with the Pirates held to four or fewer runs in 10 straight games, including three scoreless performances. Former Pirate Chad Kuhl is having a fine 2022 season for the Rockies, on pace for a career best ERA through seven starts. Like most Rockies pitchers he has been significantly better on the road and this should be a comfortable setting and matchup for a successful outing. JT Brubaker is 0-4 with a 5.50 ERA through eight starts but most ERA equivalency metrics support Brubaker as deserving of significantly better results. Nearly 45 percent of his base runners have scored for very tough luck as Brubaker has impressive strikeout numbers. After some early season issues with walks, his command has been better of late and he owns a 30.5 percent CSW% for one of the better rates in the NL. Kuhl isn’t far behind at 28.4 percent as both pitchers are generating strikes and misses. The ‘under’ is 11-8-2 at PNC Park with Pittsburgh averaging just 3.6 runs per game at home while Colorado has averaged just 2.7 runs per game on the road this season. All six meetings between these teams played ‘under’ last season and a similar low-scoring contest seems likely on Monday. Thank you for playing with Nelly’s and Best of Luck.
