- Our 25* NBA Friday TV Game of the Month is on Dallas plus the points versus Memphis at 10:10 pm et.
The Dallas Mavericks were on a six-game winning streak before they got upset in New York, 108-85, as a 2.5-point favorite on Wednesday. The Mavs should respond with a strong effort tonight in this nationally-televised game. Dallas has covered the point spread in four straight games after a loss, and they have covered the point spread in eight of their last ten games after a loss by 10 or more points. They have covered the point spread in eleven of their last thirteen games after not scoring more than 100 points in their last game. They have covered the point spread in nine of their last ten games on the road after getting upset in their last game. First-year head coach Jason Kidd has his Mavericks playing better basketball despite Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis both missing time. Kidd is getting nice contributions from his role players who are warming up to the physical style of play. Dallas has held their last five opponents to 96.8 points per game on 43.5% shooting. Jalen Brunson has been a revelation running the offense during the games Doncic has been out. The improved play on defense has corresponded with Kidd giving more playing time to Reggie Bullock with Tim Hardaway, Jr. playing less time. Some bettors might point to the Mavericks owning a 3-9 record against with a top-ten net rating in offensive and defensive efficiency. Yet Dallas did dominate Golden State, 99-82, last week and they ended Chicago’s nine-game winning streak two games later. They have covered the point spread in five of their last six games against teams winning at least 60% of their games. Dallas has been without Porzingis for most of their recent winning streak so him being out tonight as he remains in quarantine is not a disqualifying factor. The Mavericks are 41-19-1 ats in their last sixty-one games on the road against teams with a winning record at home. They have covered the point spread in twenty-five of their last thirty-five road games when the oddsmakers install the over/under from 210 to 219.5.
Memphis is on an eleven game winning streak after beating Minnesota last night, 116-108. The Grizzlies have been one of the biggest surprises in the league, driven by a dramatic midseason improvement with their play on defense. Yet Memphis will be undermanned tonight. Dillon Brooks is out indefinitely with an ankle injury. Steven Adams missed last night’s game with an illness that could limit his availability tonight. Killian Tillie and Yves Pons are in quarantine. Playing without a day of rest will be a challenge against Doncic and company. The Grizzlies have only covered the point spread twice in their last seven games at home when the oddsmakers install them as the favorite, and they have only covered the point spread in four of their last eleven home games when the oddsmakers have them as a favorite of up to six points. Take Dallas plus the points.
Good luck - Team Del Genio.
