Philadelphia 76ers -3.5 (-110) (William Hill)
The 76ers had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season and after a tumultuous offseason with negative headlines the 76ers have struggled to match that pace going just 23-17 at the 40-game mark of the season. There are some positive traits for this group however as 23 of 40 games have been road games and Philadelphia is 15-8 in those games. The 76ers also have a solid record vs. the Western Conference and this is the fourth best defensive scoring team in the Eastern Conference. Since a December 20 win in Boston the 76ers are 8-2 and this should be a motivated team coming off a home loss on Wednesday to Charlotte. Boston is in a grueling turnaround after a big win vs. the Knicks on Saturday and winning two games with the Pacers this week including an overtime result and a road win on Wednesday. The .500 Celtics have not won four straight games all season long and two wins on the current 5-2 run have come in overtime. Boston had lost six straight road games before Wednesday’s win and the Celtics have played 11 of the past 15 games at home as the slight rise in winning percentage is driven by the recent schedule. Boston is still early in a major transition season is just 5-8 S/U vs. the top 10 teams in the league and this is a favorable price on the 76ers considering they were -3 in two December meetings that were both in Boston. The Celtics continue to struggle with long-range shooting hitting below 34 percent this season from 3-point range while Philadelphia’s defense has often responded well to losses, particularly ones in which the defense has allowed triple-figures. Boston does have a good record ATS vs. winning teams this season but this is a short price for the 76ers off a loss, at home, while having some of the best splits in the NBA in recent weeks. Marcus Smart being a question mark tonight adds to the appeal of Philadelphia as well. Thank you for playing with Nelly’s and Best of Luck.
