Cleveland Indians vs Minnesota Twins Under 6.5 (-110)
- 6.5 does not leave a great deal of margin for error but Cleveland and Minnesota are both really struggling at the plate. The Indians are batting .196 vs. right-handed pitching in the past 10 games and overall scoring just 2.9 runs per nine. The Twins have been a bit better hitting .235 in that stretch but with just 4.2 runs per nine. A 7-inning game minimizes the bullpen’s role in the equation though Cleveland has had excellent relief pitching this season and the Twins have pitched well in the bullpen lately. Yesterday the Twins struck early in New York and then suffered another collapse but that result can be pinned on a brutal zone from Jeff Nelson in the critical seventh and eighth innings as the Twins deserved a low-scoring win. Minnesota’s game yesterday featured only 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position while Cleveland has been shut out three times in the past six games. Joe Ryan beat the Indians last week in one of those shutouts with seven innings of one-hit ball and there is no reason to think he can’t again be successful after posting a dominant AAA line this season. Triston McKenzie has allowed just five runs and 12 hits in last five starts spanning 33 innings as he deserves some rookie of the year votes even if his conventional numbers are average. The ‘under’ has hit in six of the past seven meetings in this series and a low-scoring start to the double-header seems inevitable as both teams will likely save their ‘A’ lineups for Game 2.
