Analysis
My 10* Game of the Week is on the TB Rays at 7:07 ET. The Toronto Blue Jays were 69-62 after Aug 31 but have gone 12-1 in September, after Monday's 8-1 win over the Ryays in the opener of a three-game series. 89-55 Tampa Bay is still EIGHT games ahead of Toronto in the AL East but Toronto's surge has them atop the wild card standings, albeit by just ONE game over the Yankees and Red Sox (Mariners and A's are also lurking). How does that saying go? All good things must come to an end? At some point, the Toronto Blue Jays are going to falter and lose a few games and in my opinion, that slide starts here and now. The Jays have gone 15-2 in their last 17 games, scoring a staggering 52 runs over their last four games alone. As noted, Tampa Bay still leads the AL East (owns the AL's best record) but it'll be eager to now break Toronto's big run and to avenge yesterday's humbling setback. I base my picks on many things. I often base my MLB picks on just the starting pitchers, but that's not the case with this particular selection. I think that these starters are evenly matched. Drew Rasmussen (2-1, 3.25 ERA) has a 65/23 KW ratio over 61 innings so far this season for Tampa. He gave up one run over five innings in an important victory over Boston in his last outing. He's 2-1 with a 2.73 ERA on the road this year. Jose Berrios (11-7, 3.52) has won three straight for the Jays. He's been fantastic of late as well, conceding just six runs over his last three starts combined. As I said, these pitchers are evenly matched, and this selection is not based on either. Tampa has responded well in this spot for bettors though, going 8-2 (80%) in its last 10 in trying to avenge a five runs or greater road loss to an opponent. Great value going against the Jays here. The play is Tampa. Good luck...Larry
