- At 9:05 pm, our selection is on the Colorado Avalanche over the Arizona Coyotes. Picked as the favorites to win the Stanley Cup by many this year (including myself), the start of the NHL season hasn't gone exactly as planned for the Avalanche. Their 9-6-1 record is decent but nowhere near as dominant as the talent on the roster would suggest. And the 6-2 drubbing handed to them by the Wild in their last game was humbling to say the least. So perhaps a match-up tonight with the Coyotes -- the first since they eliminated Arizona in the playoffs last August -- will be just what the doctor ordered. The result of that playoff series was a four games to one thrashing by the Avs. And they won the last two by identical 7-1 routs. And perhaps more important is how the Avs tend to bounce back strong after suffering a rout of their own, going 8-1 in their last nine games following a loss by three or more goals. Arizona beat Anaheim 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday but the Coyotes are a poor 9-25 (-16 games on the money line) in their last 34 following a one-goal victory. Take Colorado.
